Barebones option for the vortex 2 (£1000 budget)

Hey PCspecialist and forum users

I'd like to start this post first saying how impressed i am with the company website and its prices and how amzing its glittering reviews are from ALL of its users. I can tell this is the perfect site for residents of the UK to buy laptops from.

My question is thus. I have a laptop at the moment thats great. Its has lots of ram and a decent processor, the problem is the graphics card is dedicated and is rubbish (cant even play Battlefield 2142). SO it cant be upgraded.

Now ive saved up nearly £1000 for a new GAMING (just love that word :D) laptop. Unfortunately that means im stuck with the rather poor performing gtx560 when i had my heart set on a HD6990. Now what ive thinking is can PCspecialist offer me a barebones version of the vortex 2 with just the hd6990 and maybe the pixel protection/insurance plan for less than £1000?? I can salvage the rest of the parts from my current laptop which im 100% definite that i can take apart and install in the barebones version of the vortex 2.

If for any reason PCspecialist cant sell me the vertex 2 barebones does anyone know anywhere i can buy the np170hm case and the HD6990m graphics card from?

Welcome to our forums :)

Unfortunately we only sell fully assembled notebooks that are fully tested beforehand. We can possibly allow you to send in your hard drive, but the CPU, RAM, etc. need to be ordered from us.

Hey can i send in a HD (scorpio blue) and disk drive? and if so how much money would i save? Is it possible to have a laptop without second HD and without disc drive?

Thing is it isn't as easy as just swapping componet's over, CPU's use different socket's e.t.c and the graphics card that comes with the laptop is designed for a certain motherboard.

Also as you said your current laptop is screwed why would you want to risk placing it in a new laptop?

If you can save up an extra £100 you can get:

Quad Core I7
4GB Ram
AMD 6990M 2GB
DVD/CD Drive

Then just send them your hard drive.

Works out at like £1101

Hm my last reply didnt seem to post?

Anyway, if thats the case, ashley, then thats great news! Ive been looking at a spec like this which coasts £1175

Quad Core I7
2GB Ram
AMD 6990M 2GB
DVD/CD Drive
250gb

If i can knock off nearly £100 by sending the HD in then great. Can you or someone else from PCS confirm this?
