Chat is not available at the moment. Please can I check a few things?

This is for an elderly relative who has been using Ubuntu for a decade now. Only used for web browsing, emails and Libre office. Key requirement is durability.

I haven't tried Ubuntu with onboard vega graphics as yet. Is this straightforward?
Planning to install OS on the M2 drive. the 1st SATA will be used for /home partition.

Nod to durability is the corsair power, thermal paste and extra fan. Probably overkill. Suggestions welcome.

The Ryzens have been quite Linux friendly, a couple of things early on but AMD were quick to respond and fix.

Not sure about AMD but with Nvidia or an Intel iGPU it is best to install in safe graphics mode and stick with the X.org drivers as the proprietary have not worked as well.

Think they are fine, just a case of which are the best drivers. Not had experience of the AMD integrated GPU so cannot be sure.
Luckily it is simple enough to switch between drivers in Ubuntu.

My only experience with Ryzen CPUs is on a Nova laptop, with Nvidia GPU. Have run Ubuntu and Manjaro on that with no real problems.

Hopefully all will be fine with yours, please let us know as the information is always useful.

I need to de-risk as it's not for me, elderly relative in lockdown. I need to configure test and deploy - location about 100miles away.
So, seeing how it goes and switching between drivers is not going to work out.

I might spec a different card just for that reason. Very helpful, thanks.

I will check around, do not think it will be a problem but I see you have to be sure.
Will you be doing the Ubuntu install, as any driver issues could be solved then in a few minutes.

Many thanks for your advice Stephen
Yes, I will be doing the install and can fix. My worry is kernel updates though.

Think once it is installed and working you should be fine, especially on Nouveau drivers. The problems I have noted have been Nvidia drivers, not always the newest working.

I guess you will be going with the LTS so again ok, my last main Ubuntu problem was an upgrade, I go to the latest version all the time.

I thought I would post back. In the end I went for integrated graphics
AMD Ryzen 5 3350G Quad Core CPU with Radeon Graphics (3.6GHz-4.0GHz/6MB CACHE/AM4)

And the video performs just fine with the standard drivers.

The one slight bug is that I am running XFCE and the HDMI display will not sleep.
