Best Record "what you hear" additional s/w for Win 7

My PC/soundcard won't allow "Record what u hear" like my old one using a creative soundcard.
I've tried using free s/w that states it can record anything you hear on the PC, "Audigy" and "Free Sound Recorder", "What you hear audio recorder" but can't get any to work.
Anyone use any free software to do this? What do you recommend?

Audacity?

Had a quick google and apparently it's at least sort of working for some people

When previously on WIN 7 Pro 64 bit I was able to record with Audacity what ever was coming out the speakers using the "What U Hear" feature

Spider I tried that but my Realtek HD Stereo Mix doesn't allow it!

Tried all three methods with Audacity. None work! Thought ahh well the cable hack will work!! Nope the Realtek Audio Manager keeps popping up reloading audio devices, alternating between headphones and line in/mic, it doesn't like it.
1. "Stereo Mix"
2. WASAPI Loopback
3. Cable in/out Hack

Surely there's a way!

If it’s not available that’s because the chipset doesn’t support it as it says in the guide.
