Blue Screen

Hi All,

I've had my computer about 6 months now and over the last few weeks ive been getting Blue Screen quite a bit but normally only when im playing first person shooters like CoD Black Ops.

Obviously I can send it back to PC Specialist but can anybody suggest things to try and cure it before I have to send it back. I did a system restore and that seemed to help for a while but its started again and seems to be getting worse as yesterday I had 3 blue screens on the trot, 1 while playing CoD and then 2 more as soon as I signed back into windows.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Have you updated any drivers, installed any software, added any new hardware round about the time the blue screens started?

We could do with knowing the details from the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death).

To prevent the screen from closing before you can note down the details, right-click on your My Computer icon and select Properties from the pop-up menu. From the list on the left of the window that opens, select Advanced System Settings. In the new window that opens, go to the Advanced tab and click on the Settings button in the Startup and Recovery section. In the System Failure of the window that opens, untick Automatically Restart then save the settings. In future, when the BSOD occurs, the screen will stay visible until you press CTRL+ALT+DEL.

Next time you get the BSOD, jot down (or photograph) the details in the sections highlighted in this picture and post them here - that should be a big help in finding the source of the problem.

Thanks for your help guys. The only thing I have really added hardware wise is an external hard drive but thats not even plugged mainly cos if it is powered up and attached then the computer wont start (no idea why) so i leave it powered off until I need it.

Re the Blue Screen print, thats great, i'll give that a go this evening an attach a copy here shortly.

Thanks.

I'd test the RAM first, you could use the Windows Memory Test (type "windows memory diagnostic) in the search box on the start menu. Or you could run MemTest - http://www.memtest.org/. This is a more advanced memory test, download the ISO, burn it onto a bootable CD and run it, see if it shows any errors.

dxgmms1.sys in that BSOD points to a sound or graphics related problem (directX) so if the memory test pan out, try completely removing and reisinstalling the drivers for you graphics and sound cards. Also, make sure that any onboard sound is disabled in BIOS as there can be problems using intergrated sound with an add-on sound card. If that doesn't help, try removing the Audigy sound card and see if that helps.

Thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately it hasnt helped.

The hotfix didnt fix it. The memory diagnostic says everything is ok. The gfx, sound card and BIOS drivers are all up todate and still the BSOD strikes.

Could it be a virus? (although my anti virus says its all clear) or I have been told it could be overheating? I have the side of the case off now and all the fans are working ok and the titan fenrir is working ie the fan is going round but there isnt much in the way of cool air coming from it at all. Ive never had one of these before so should you really be able to feel the cool air from one of these?

These are just two of the blue screens today, it seems like the error is always someting different.
