Both cores unlocked?

Hello All

My new pc arrived at the weekend and I ended up having to install the OS again as it wasn’t setup properly. Before dong this I tried everything I could do get it working. On the boot screen as the machine started up I was offered the option of pressing 4 to unlock both cores AMD ATHLON II X2 DUAL CORE 270 (3.40GHz/2MB CACHE/AM3) . I pressed 4 and now on the bootup screen it shows the following message:

*******both cores unlocked!******

Is this a bad thing or should I have both cores unlocked? If I shouldn’t have both cores unlocked could you tell me how to return it to the original setting please?

Thanks

Thanks Gorman

So if I hadn't unlocked it wouldn't the machine have been as fast? And, why do you think it wasn't already unlocked?

Its a tool meant for triple / quad core CPU's where AMD had disabled a core. If the BIOS was reset then so was this option.

I unlocked "both cores" before installing the OS and they remained unlocked after the installation, so maybe they were never unlocked. Not to worry, as long as it's running fine now.

Thanks Again!
