brightness and nvidia 765m switching issues

Hi
I have bought a laptop from pcspeciaist which is a w350t,complete with an i7 m800mq and gtx 765m.Initially i had to ask for a windows 7 usb thumbstick to be sent with as the cd supplied was for windows 8.

I have installed everything which is working fine except the brightness doesn't adjust on my screeen, even though the hotkeys do work and i even get the indication in the top left of the screen the brightness is increasing or decreasing. The screen stays the same.

Also i have the optimus switch on (orange colour),but when i run the dolphin gamecube emulator or other apps,i can't get it to use the nvidia card and it uses intel 4600.

I have messed around with the nvidia control panel, and also have the nvidia gpu activity icon in the system tray, but it's not using it.Even selecting to use the 765m by right clicking on the .exe i want use doesn't work.Any ideas? many thanks.
regards Paul

I have this too but i know what it is, on my old laptop when my Nvidia did an upgrade the brightness stopped working, it's to do with the version of Nvidia or something because on my old laptop when i rollbacked the update it was fine again, however can't do that now because there is nothing to rollback to lol

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with the sme problem. So we're at the mercy of whoever provides the nvidia driver update.only you can't update the card directly through the nvidia website,as they tell you to use the driver supplied by the whover you bought the laptop from.
I'm beginning to think i wasted £800 of my money now,as a laptop that i can only use the inbuilt intel gpu is pointless.

Well i uninstalled the nvidia driver and reinstalled, and it seems to have fixed the problem where i can now choose between the intel and nvidia gpu,but god knows why the brightness doesn't adjust

The hotkeys for volume airplane, optimus, etc are fine. It's just the brightness stays on full.I've tried the drivers on the clevo site, but they're for windows 8 and I'm on 7,and don't install either.
It's bugging me as to why it's happening.

There is a Hotkey driver for Windows 7 on the Clevo site (6.0053). I think if you don't have the right drivers installed you're bound to have issues?

I have those exact hotkey drivers installed, and the problem still occurs. So there's not a lot i can do at the moment.

I took delivery of an Optimus V yesterday; same issue - neither the FN F8/F9 keys nor does the Dispaly->Adjust Brightness setting in the OS affect the brightness of the screen. I will try those Clevo drivers and let you know the result.

When I got my Optimus IV I had brightness issues. Installing the latest Hotkey driver from the Clevo site fixed that. F8/F9 adjust the brightness as expected, I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.

I'm struggling to find the combination of Clevo hotkey drivers and Windows 7. Has anyone managed to obtain this combination? if so what was the download filename?

Thanks

This problem is not just on Nvdia based Clevo's, i have the Vortex with the ATI and Windows 8 and it worked fine up until a point where the ATI Drivers were upgraded. If i go back 2 editions then it works fine if i return to current drivers it stops working.

I've tried all the combos i can think off and have had no results.

It doesn't bother me until the battery goes to 7% and the battery lift then the screen dims. The problem is that if you plug the power in at this point you cannot get full brightness again without uninstalling the GPU drivers. IF you let the Laptop shut down plug it in then start it up again then it comes back full brightness.

It's extremely annoying and have had no sign of a fix. The internet is littered with this problem but no solutions that i have found.

This is an issue the CLEVO are looking at fixing. Should be included in the update for the FAN fix. We will let you know as soon as we know more.

I was at my daughters house yesterday and inadverdantly left my coat behind including my glasses. I have two pairs of glasses, plain and tinted. On trying the tinted ones I can say from my little experiment

Buy a pair of SUNGLASSES. It will solve the brightness issue.

So is this only a win7 issue? Can win8 users confirm its working for them? This would be something I would expect to be ironed out pre-release from Clevo, but then it is likely that laptops are stocked and tested with the latest OS so hopefully there should be no issues with win8 and if there are I will have to hold off buying a machine laptop whose brightness is temperamental

My Optimus IV running Windows 8 Pro also dims the screen when on battery and when the power level falls (to about 10% it seems). Plugging in the power cord restores full brightness immediately. No problems here. :)

I contacted PC Specialist support at the end of last week; the issue was confirmed as a hotkey driver problem; PC Specialist are expecting a hotkey driver update for Windows 7 from Clevo in the 'next week', and the engineer promised to post something on the forums when this driver update is released.

Just for clarity I have an Optimus V, a 765M and Windows 7.
