hi
i'm looking for a pc ,the main things i want it for is creality slicer, freecad and some arduino projects
at some point i would also like to try programming(c++).
I have a msi 27" curved pro mp271ca monitor that i will be using
budget is between 4 and 600 euro but ideally as close to 400 as possible, looking for something that will last at least 4 years.
i can increase the budget if i need to but would prefer not to
would be greatful for and help configuring it as i've no clue...

whats your max budget?

400 - 600 would get you a very basic office pc, I think you need to set expectations, pc prices are still the highest they've ever been, plus we're still at over 6% inflation, so you have to understand that you need to spend far more than you would have before the pandemic to get equal performance.

i want to spend as little as posible but am willing to spend as much as needed to get a pc that is fit for what i need. I just dont want to end up with a computer that is over speced/priced for my needs.
basically i hate spending money needlessly:)

That's a sure fire way to ensure you spend more money than you have too

You spend more money so the PC last 7-10 years as opposed to having to buy one every 2-3 years to keep up. Buying good once beats buying cheap multiple times in pretty much every situation but especially when it comes to PC hardware

im happy to spend the money needed for pc to last 7-10 years but i dont want to end up with a pc that is way more powerfull then ill ever need.
my problem is i have know idea what i actually need for my intended use.
not sure if im explaining correctly but budget is secondary to pc that is fit for my needs

I would just get an off the shelf laptop to be honest. You'll get reasonable performance for the 500-600 mark. It won't be blistering, but it'll certainly handle the office style tasks.

Can then hook it up to the monitor/keyboard/mouse etc or opt for a hub to save hassle.

maybe an option .i thought i would be able to get beter value for preformance with a pc,was i mistaken in my thinking?

No budget is primary
i could go to the configurator and put the most exsensive parts in but throwing money at something is rarely the answer either.
was looking for a little guidance on building a computer to suit my needs but as scott said maybe an off the shelf laptop is the best option

Until we know your budget, we have no idea what to design it to.

will 1200 euro be enough?
I don't know? Is that the maximum you can spend? I don't know your financial situation I'm afraid?

I think there's a lot of misunderstanding of how computers work, there is no ceiling to available performance except in very rare niche circumstances.

The cheaper you go, the less power, which means increased processing times and generally slow navigation. And there's definitely a flaw where you don't want to go below.

But we have no idea what's slow to you, or acceptable performance. We will never recommend a PC that has poor performance based on budget, it equates to a poor user experience, and very limited lifespan, you end up spending exponentially more because you just have to replace the pc.

What we ask at the outset if your maximum budget, that's not something we can tell you, it's not something based on any kind of performance, or anything, it's simply the maximum you have available for this purchase.

Ony when we know that can we know how to design a system within that limitation.

As there is no limitation from a hardware perspective in relation to performance, other than what's currently top tier.

1200 euro is significantly more performance wise than 600. 600 I would opt for a laptop. With 1200 on a PC you will be able to get a competent modern day system.

Below is very slightly over budget but I think it's worth considering. The only thing missing is a proper GPU but with your uses the on-board should be OK, it won't be fantastic in full render in CAD, but for simple design it'll be fine.

If you don't need a secondary storage drive for cache or etc then you can forego the second drive which would save some cash. Addionally, while I would always choose the fastest RAM available, there is some savings to be had by dropping to something like 5200 to save some cash. This wouldn't be my choice, but the option is there with the budget in mind.

I wasn't sure where delivery was to, whether it was ROI elsewhere so you would need to take into account additional shipping etc. The system below has years in it, many years. You can plug in a dGPU at any time you wish also.

could i increase the size of the first SSD to say 2TB and remove the second one or is it better to have two? also if i was to add a GPU what one would you recommend.
thanks for help

For the storage see this link:

For the GPU, pretty much any entry level GPU would have you covered. The 2060 is a good shout, or the 3060. I would aim for the 12GB offerings on both.

thanks scott. I found the link re storage after I posted yesterday ,very informative.
Is the GPU your referring to the nvidia geforce rtx 3060 also I can't find any mention of a 2060 on the configurator.
hopefully my last question for you and I hope I'm not opening a can of worms but my son is looking to play games on pc ,its only fortnite and minecraft that he plays. would this pc be able to to play them?
when I add the GPU it's coming in at close to 1600euro,for that budget am I better with a different build or is the configuration still solid.
thanks again for all help.

The 2060 is an older card, you would need to purchase it yourself to fit. You could potentially get a bargain 2nd hand on it.

The build would be a good 1080p gamer with the 3060 in place. With those games especially it would fare very well. I believe your monitor is 1080p and 75hz so it would have no issue gaming at this level. The 2060 would do OK as well, but the 3060 would be more in line with a proper experience.
