Build advice before I buy

Hey all. I'm looking to buy the below build but just wanted to post it and ask a couple of questions before I pull the trigger on it. My main uses are gaming on it: I'll be playing games like Baldurs gate 3, Path of Exile, and Diablo 4 on a 1440p 144hz monitor.

The case I bought seems to come with 2 fans (1 front and 1 rear). Is this enough to keep my build cool? I'm not interested in overclocking, but would like it to be future proofed in case I ever upgrade my gpu/cpu. WOuld getting an AIO with 3 fans be a better idea considering there are only 2 others in the case?

I also wanted to ask if my ram is suitable? I see a lot of people saying that 6000mhz is needed for the ryzen 7 cpu, but it doesnt look like there is any ram of this speed in stock. Is 5600mhz fine?

Thanks in advance

Budget: max £3000

What's the budget, and what monitor are you looking to pair it with(resolution and refresh rate, or make and model), with regards to the fans you'll have 5 in total (the 3 case fans + the 2 fans on the cooler), so yes that will be plenty

Hi Martin. Cheers for the reply. My budget is maxiumum $3000 and I already have a 1440p / 144hz monitor. I've updated my initial comment with this info (y)

It looks pretty good generally.

Couple of pointers:

GPU: Not really any benefit to the Asus model unless you particularly want it, but performance wise you could drop to the standard 4070ti and save a bundle. Performance wise, they would perform largely the same. You could also drop to the 4070, but if it were me, I'd probably stick with the ti also.

AV: Drop the Norton trial, it's a pain to uninstall once it's on there.

Case: For an extra £25 you can step up to the 5000x which is largely the same case but includes a Lightning Node Core iCue RGB controller so you can put the case RGB onto the controller and free up the board headers, good for futureproofing should you want to add any more RGB and also means you can control all the RGB in iCue rather than the rather less functional and problematic board RGB software.

Motherboard: The B650 version would be fine, but again, if it were me, I'd stick with what you have as it has a lot more USB's plus M2 slots, it's a better consideration if those things are important to you.

RAM: If it were me, I'd order with the basic 8Gb RAM, and then source my own 2 x 16Gb 6000MHz CL32 RAM, my personal favorites are GSkill, cost around £100. You're right, 6000MHz is the sweetspot for Ryzen gaming. There was an issue where AMD had to release an emergency BIOS patch to limit the voltage applied on RAM overclocks which is why PCS pulled 6000MHz from the configurator temporarily. There's currently a BETA bios released to board partners which corrects this and is looking extremely stable even at 6400MHz and above, so it won't be long before that BIOS is out of BETA. Our resident @Scott has personally tested the BETA BIOS and found it very reliable on his X670E

Thanks, this is really useful. I've posted my updated build below.

Quick question about the 5000x case: I can see that it comes with 3 front fans. I'm also going to buy a corsair AIO cooler (have decided to upgrade to icue link H150i), but does this mean that I still need to buy an additional fan (rear) for this case? If so, do you know what my options would be for this. Is it something I can get PCS to install for me? When I add an extra case fan to my build, it says that they may not be able to install it.

Just to add, you can happily drop down to the H100i cooler, the 7800X3D is insanely efficient. BUT, that would be 2 fans.

You could also drop to the H115i which is also 2 fans, but 140mm rather than 120.

Or you may want to stick with the H150i for aesthetics which is 3 x 120mm fans.

Either way, they'll all absolutely smash the 7800X3D, it's a really incredible chip in efficiency terms as well as performance.

Forgot to add as well, when you're sourcing RAM, make sure it's EXPO RAM (AMD) and not XMP (intel)

Brilliant cheers! Would you say there is no need to buy any additional fans then apart from the ones that comes with the case and the AIO ones?
