Build advice

Computer spec posted at the bottom.

Hi there. I just bought this desktop computer with the intention of using it to play cyberpunk 2077 with rtx on when I get it. I used the guide posted by CDPR on what to get in my build because I am not that tech savvy.

The question I have is this : Is the motherboard I got going to be a big hindrance? I picked the cheapest base case for budget reasons and managed to get everything on the requirements on it no problem, I just didn't know anything about the mother board.

Also are there any other recommendations as to anything else that might be worth changing? (Like second storage drive etc)

Thank you for any help.

Not exactly sure about monitor, someone is buying me it but I am sure it is 4k 60hz I think.

Not got an exact budget, I am just trying to keep is as low as possible.

Edited my post and added the details you asked for.

I don't see the monitor or budget details, however a couple of comments spring to mind:

  1. Picking a cheap case is a false economy as the cheap cases don't have good airflow & therefore bad cooling which means you aren't going to get the best performance out of your kit & your going to fry it
  2. you'd do a lot better with AMD rather than Intel especially with te cpu's that AMD have just released
  3. Nvidia recommend a minimum of a 650W power supply for the 3070 so best to have a 750w for future proofing
  4. I'd add a 500GB m.2 for the OS etc to go on
Hopefully one of the guys such as @AgentCooper will show up and give more advise

Yeah I realised I hadn't added those details, I have now.

I have no problem getting a better case, higher power supply and second storage drive, I am not sure how to change to AMD from Intel by amending my order? Also what amd would be recommended as an equal to the Intel i7?

Sorry for all the questions.

Have you actually ordered this, if not just go back to the configurator and spec it up in the AMD configurator I think you'd be looking at the Ryzen 7

I have already ordered this. Is there no way to change that after it has been ordered.

Also would you recommend a monitor with a higher refresh rate or would 60hz be okay?

Hi there! Thanks for bringing me in on this one, happy to lend my thoughts. I’ve specced up an alternate AMD build that despite being two cores short of the Intel knocks it out of the park on both single and multi threading, thermal performance and security. Not to mention that it’s a brand new chip, whereas the Intel is running off five year old architecture.

You would have to contact PCS via telephone and ask if they’re willing to switch the build. Or... cancel it on your account and start again.

Any questions, please give me a shout 👍

Thank you for your help.

Would you recommend i try to get a different monitor with a higher refresh rate or would the 60hz be fine?

The 3070 will cope with 4K at around 60Hz. But where it really comes into it’s own is with 1440p ultrawide. I’d recommend something along the lines of this...

Thank you. And one last question before I go change everything lol.

If I went up to a 3080 would you still recommend the same monitor?

Thomas239

Nope, for that you’d want a 4K 144Hz monitor. Or the glorious Samsung G9.

Thank you so much. I will see what I can find in my budget, that monitor is definitely out of my budget but I will see what I can do.

Thanks for all the help, time to go start all over again.

No problem, update this thread if you need any further advice 👍
Hi @AgentCooper

Whilst I am waiting for my previous build to be cancelled, I wanted to run my new build by you.

Also could you explain the ssd/hdd situation a little please?

Do I want my os installed on the ssd and then install all my software on the hdd?

Thanks again
