Build help- is this good?

Hi there,

I'm looking to get some advice on my build. I have minimal experience with PC's beyond just a general understanding and am unsure if this build is too little or too much, or if there's a better alternative and could really use the advise if possible please? I was originally looking to go around £1500 but can go to £1800 if needed which is what this build is quoted at. Id be using it for work and gaming. Id very much like it to be able to handle any game at good graphics and be definitely VR ready. I play a whole range of games so would like it to be a jack of all trades. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My build is as follows:

Hi there,

@MrWilson Thank you so much for the detailed feedback and advice I very much appreciate it, if you don't mind me asking, your specification vs the ones on offer for the black Friday deal seem somewhat similar, are they reasonable for their price points or am I better going for your recommendations?

For referance:

Thanks again

The pre-built configs usually contain the entry-level components required to meet a build price...rather than matched to the specific needs of the user.

For example, in both of those Black Friday deals:
  • They've got a single, slow(er) SSD for your OS and games...we would never recommend that as it's best practice to keep the OS drive and installed games on separate drives to avoid the need to re-download everything every time you have to rebuild your Windows install (whether that's just for general annual maintenance, or if it becomes corrupted).
  • They've both got a basic CV-class PSU (i.e. office-spec) rather than an upgradable TX/RX enthusiast-spec PSU (quieter, more efficient, modular cabling).
  • They've both got basic PCS AIO coolers, despite both configs having quite hot processors
  • They've both got terrible wi-fi cards (decade old card, with dodgy W11 drivers)
