Build Me A Desktop

Hello there. I am off to university to study computer game design so I am in need of a mid/high end desktop.

For want of a better word i am a newb when it comes to building computers so some help would be greatly appreciated

The main requirements for the desktop is that it can run these programs to the highest standard:

Unity
Unreal Development Kit
3Ds Max

And of course play most games.

If anyone could suggest a build that would be great. Thanks

Found some stats on 3ds max and hyperthreading. I read that it doesn't support hyperthreading, yet this was the result of a test with an i7 and hyperthreading both on and off:

Without Hyper-threading frame 277
Render time: 21sec
Translation time: 6:32
Cache 113MB

With Hyper-threading frame 277
Render Time: 16sec
Translation Time: 5:44
Cache 114MB


With Hyper-threading and single deflector object frame 277
Render Time: 10sec
Translation Time: 3:21
Cache 115MB


If those figures are really worthwhile, could be worth considering an i7.

Only way to keep it under £1000 with an i7 would be to have a lower spec HDD and 450w PSU (which PCS says is adequate with a max draw of 386w).

Alternatively, keep the Caviar HDD and go for a cheaper case, maybe adding a fan or 2 for cooling:

I have heard that the Unreal Development Kit does not not run so well on Intel Processors? Does anyone know if this is true?
