I mostly play rainbow six siege at an amateur professional level so I’m just going for a constant 144fps

However I’m going to get a 240hz monitor at one point or another, my current setup right now is a 1660ti i5-9400f
3060ti would definitely be a good choice then for your budget, it's overpowered for 1080p 144hz, but would suit you well if you chose to either go to 1080p 240hz or even made the leap up to 1440p 240hz as there are now some good options of monitors in that space such as the HP Omen 27 or Samsung G7.

Yeah when i started to the above build i was originally thinking 2060 Super, but then decided as not much difference to up to the 3060Ti

This build would serve you much better mate, it's better balanced would perform outstandingly at 1080p and really admirably at 1440p.

It has longevity by nature of the parts selected and room to upgrade. It's a night and day to your original build mate, as for R6 being CPU heavy the 5600x will eat it a alive it's not a very demanding game

To be honest I play on very low settings, as I don't care how the game looks as I mostly do scrims and league games so i'm not bothered by graphics etc, so attaining 144fps is meh with my current rig.

However I don't imagine It would be hard getting 240fps on very low settings no?

With the 3060ti, at 1080p you'd get way over 144hz, it's more aimed at 240hz or even 1440p 144hz

I play on 4:3 (I think it's 1200 x 720 i can't remember) so i don't think a 2060 would struggle getting 240fps?
2060 is old gen so will need replacing sooner (it's already 3 years old).

It's up to you if youre happy having older tech. If you're reducing settings that much then either would hit the frames fine I think

Surely playing at 720p is a bigger detriment that playing at lower frames on a higher res. Couldn't imagine doing that to myself it would be brutal

Nah I get you, but I just play on very low settings not out of pity for fps, because It's easier to see enemies, and with 4:3 I just play that because it makes the enemies wider.

However I'm interested in the new battlefield, but I haven't benchmarked it on youtube yet for 144fps

Battlefield is quite power hungry, even with RTX off, you have DLSS to up the framerates, but the RTX 3060ti would be far better if factoring in any DLSS, as the RTX2000 series were first gen with DLSS tech, and are nowhere near as powerful as the 3000 series.

I would still suggest the 3000 series are worth it, if you're looking at modern competitive titles, they will all benefit heavily from DLSS.

Could you give a rough aprox of what fps I'd get with a 3060ti with med-high settings?

Really high end competitive players will reduce to 720p, it's fairly standard practice. They'll boost the frames far over what the monitor can show as they find it improves mouse response times.

These are serious competitive players, as soon as someone says they're reducing settings this low you know they're serious about competitive play because no one would do that otherwise ;)

A lot of high end competitive players also still prefer CRT monitors over any kind of LCD monitor due to the really smooth refresh rate (analogue) over digital frame to frame. So they'll pay multiple thousands of pounds for some 30 year old 17" CRT monitor as a preference. CRT was substantially better in certain circumstances, especially with regards to refresh rate and contrast. I totally get why they do it.

At what resolution? I'm on my work laptop atm and youtube is quite heavily restricted so can't find out any benchmarks.

Give me a couple of hours and I'll pull off some benchmarks with Battlefield 2042 and other new competitive shooters at 1440p low settings.

My guess is you'll be nudging 240Hz at 1440p low settings with the 3060ti (factoring in DLSS)

The added benefit for competitive play at 1440p is that you see greater FOV, so you'll see people coming onto screen earlier.

It's only recently that 1440p 240Hz panels have really been hitting the mainstream and there are a lot of benefits to stepping up resolution, now that it's perfectly feasible to maintain decent FPS.
