Buying with out an OS

Hello again

I was wondering if I got a laptop without an operating system installed if the hard drive would need to be formatted (somehow) or if I can just boot from the disk and install an operating system the normal way?

I have experience with installing operating systems if you were wondering :)

I was also unsure about the independent graphics button on the Optimus II laptops, what does it do and might it need to be used if gaming?

Thanks for the help!

No, you should be able to boot from disk and install as normal, you can also get the hard drive pre-partitioned as well.

Hi I bought my laptop without a OS as I already had a windows 7 licence, the laptop came with a copy of windows 7 on however which pc specialist use to test the laptop, you just wipe over it and install what os you want.

The button is used while running on battery to switch between the intel intergrated graphics and the nvidia graphics (so if you want to game on battery you must switch from intel to nvidia). However when running via the mains the GPU switchs as soon as a game starts anyway

Just out of interest, what operating system do you plan to install? If you plan to install Windows 7, do you have a volume licence or MSDN licence?

I will be instaling windows 7 professional 64bit, just a single licence from a retailer. Not sure what you mean by MSDN licence

MSDN = Microsoft Developer Network. Just a type of licence that some customers occasionally use.
