Can I update to a higher resolution monitor with my current GPU?

Hi everyone

I have recently received my new PCS system and really happy with it so far.

I use it primarily for gaming with a 1080P 60hz monitor which I have so far been very happy with. However, having seen my mates new 1440P 144mhz monitor in action it made me realise how much better it looks (monitor envy) and I am now considering upgrading my monitor but not sure if my GPU is up to it.

My GPU is a GTX 1660 Super and would be interested in getting your view on the following;

• - Would my GPU be any good a running games on a 1440p 144hz monitor? If I went for 1440p could I reduce the resolution to 1080p in higher demanding games or is that not possible?
• - If not, would I still see a marked improvement if I upgraded to a 1080p 144hz monitor i.e. would it be worth it?

I primarily play FPS games such as Hell Let Loose, Battlefield V, COD etc.

The GPU isn't powerful enough for 1440p 144Hz, you'd need a 2070 Super for that.

Thanks a lot. How about a 1080p 144hz monitor? - would it be worth the upgrade with my existing GPU or am I better off waiting a bit and upgrading GPU and Monitor together later on?

I have an ASUS VZ249HE-W 24 Inch (23.8 Inch) Monitor, FHD (1920 x 1080) - 60hz

1080p 144Hz would be a worthwhile upgrade in that case for now. Then once your GPU is starting to fade on that monitor, I'd consider replacing it with a 1440p GPU or even higher by then, and getting a better monitor.

Seems my Asus monitor can cope with being pushed to 75hz so will probably do that as an interim solution and invest in a new GPU/Monitor next year
