Can someone help me sanity check my gaming PC spec please?

I've spent some time and come up with this spec for my first gaming PC. I'm usual a PS4 player but I want to do more PC gaming, I'll probably play overwatch, fortnite and other games like vertex. Can someone please help me decide if this is a good configuration? My budget is about 1500 which this comes a tiny bit above.

This is a pretty solid build, good job!
Assuming based on the GPU that you’re pairing this with a 1080p 144hz monitor?
Storage I would adjust to have a 2TB HDD for general storage, 500gb 980 pro for your OS and programs, and a 1TB PCS m.2 SSD for your games library.
Upgrading PSU to 850W gives you room to upgrade to 1440p and beyond later down the line.
Whack on silver warranty for a fiver and you’re pretty much set! 🙂

Thanks for your suggestions @MrWilson

I think I need a new monitor as mine only has 75hz refresh rate. I have this https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07YN79RJG/ref=pe_3187911_189395841_TE_dp_1.

I was wary of a HDD, isn't it better to have SSDs and M.2 SSDs being even better? I was a bit confused about storage to be honest.
This is that monitor’s big brother, it will handle your needs nicely.

So storage is more important for certain programs compared to others. You’re correct in saying m.2 SSDs are the fastest drives but it’s not essential to have everything at the highest speed. You always want your OS (Windows) on the fastest drive possible as the OS runs everything else, so we have the 980 pro for that job. We have a slower, but still fast m.2 SSD for your games library. The main gain you’ll see with games on the m.2 is faster loading times, especially in large open world games such as RDR2 or Witcher 3.
General files like music, photos, word docs etc have no benefit from being on an SSD, so a basic Hard Drive will look after that just fine.

Ah ok, is 500GB enough for the OS? Would it be better to get a faster 2nd M.2 SSD, or would the games library loading times only benefit really from the 1TB PCS m.2 SSD?

500gb will be absolutely fine for the OS.
You could go for a faster m.2 for games but that’s a big chunk of your budget that you’re committing to storage that could be better spent on other components. The PCS m.2 is a happy medium that will give a big boost to load times without breaking the bank.

This has upped the price to 1600 but it's probably worth the changes?

One question, I wasn't sure what the best option would be for USB/Thunderbolt options, streaming cards or firewire... What's your opinion on that? @MrWilson

Default USB configuration is fine for most customers, I wouldn't see a reason for you to go for a separate configuration.
Again, streaming card is only really essential when streaming. If you wanted to stream your PS4 gameplay on twitch you would need the capture card to transfer the game footage to the PC and upload. If you wanted to stream PC gameplay the GPU would do the work for you so a capture card wouldn't be neccessary.
Firewire is only needed if you have a firewire device, it's very niche. If you're not sure then you probably don't need it.

I would have a look at the B550 Wifi motherboard. If you selected that you could remove the add-on card. It's £19. Not sure what your build comes to as you haven't provided the link etc.

Interesting, I think it'd make it 27 quid cheaper that way. Is it the TUF gaming B550 with wifi motherboard?

Yes, that's the one. You won't have any benefit with the STRIX anyway.

You can make any changes you wish right up until the system is in building. You won't lose your place in the queue or anything. If you go into your orders page and then select Amend Order, you should be able to swap things around.

Hi,

With this spec, would I need to plug in the wifi antenna which came with the PC?

Should it work without it due to the B550 motherboard with wifi?

I wasn't getting any wifi when I started it up...

Thanks,

Yep, you won't get much wifi signal without them :).

also the fans at the front, how do I get them to light up?

They started lit up with RGB lights I think but they're not now.

The cooling is lit though!
