Can't get enough internet speed on desktop

Hi everyone,

So I have my desktop upstairs and my router downstairs.
I have the virgin 100Mbps and I get around 110 Mbps on my phone sitting next to the router.

Upstairs on the same location of the desktop I can get 83.8 Mbps on my phone.

My Desktop however only gets about 4mpbs so I went out and got a tp-link wireless n pci express adapter and I got a Netgear AC1200Dual Band wifi Range extender.
I now manage to get around 24.1 Mbps.

I'm starting to think the problem is with the desktop.
My Motherboard is a ASrock N68-GS4 FX if that makes any differente.

Anyone experiencing something similar?

I appreciate any help in advance

First thing I'd do if you can is try a cabled connection.

If it's still pants, then it suggests something like the IP stack might be shot.

I'll give that a try, I'll bring the pc downstairs and connect it and see if it improves.

Thank you

You are welcome.

It's also worth ensuring you have the right drivers etc - Windows (you don't say what version you have), especially Win 10 makes a good job of getting them so it's always worthwhile trying those drivers before vendor provided ones.

Indeed, the only way to know whether it's the PC is to try an Ethernet connection to your router. Whilst your PC is downstairs also try a wireless connection and see how it is next to the router. WiFi is a minefield to be honest, there are so many things that could be causing the lower data rate.
