Card reader issue

I am having an issue with the integrated card reader in my new laptop. I wanted huge storage as I will be using the new laptop purely for 20 second MP4 video clips from my trail camera. I download approx 700 clips from an SDcard every couple of weeks or so which I then sort, delete some and categorise the others to keep. Normally downloads quickly to my 8 year old , grumpy and unstable Desktop (from PCSpecialist!). The new integrated reader is so slow….at only 2 x 20 second clips per minute and driving me nuts. Anyone else experienced this. If so did you manage to improve things somehow?
I have spoken to someone at PCS who is going to check to see if this is “normal” for this card reader. I think this is unacceptable if this is the case. The person who configured the laptop for me knew exactly what I needed it for so I am disappointed to say the least. Awaiting help and feedback from PCS but would appreciate comments

What transfer speeds are you getting from your SD card, and what format card is it?

64 GB Sandisk SD card. No idea about official transfer speed but I am used to 700 + 20 second videos uploading in a matter of a few minutes on my old PC via a cheap 10 year old plugin card reader. On the new laptop it’s 3 videos per minute!

If you can do a transfer and then tell us the speeds? We'd need to know exactly.

Depending on the format of the card, each SD format has a limit of a certain speed at a physical level, they're all capped to the design of that card.
