Case size question

Newbie here!!
I want to build a desktop PC with a case with at least space for five 3.5" HDDs.
Which cases have this capacity?
Can I assume that most ATX motherboards have at least six SATA connections?
Thank you

We can only advise on PCSpecialist systems which come fully built, is that what you're looking for?

Yes indeed. I am using the build procedure on the PCSpecialist site and while most options are obvious, I am having difficulty with the two questions that I asked above.
Thank you for your interest.

I'd suggest the Fractal Meshify 2, which has (I believe) six HDD bays with the possibility of adding more.

Many motherboards will not have six SATA connections. Those that do sometimes share bandwidth between the SATA ports and the M.2 slots, so you may not be able to have both populated.

However, you can get PCIe cards that offer an additional set of SATA ports. You might consider something like this one. Obviously a system built by PCS wouldn't include this or the number of HDDs that you're looking for, so you'd need to get the base system and add components yourself. This is completely possible and allowed by PCS's warranty, but just so you know.

If you'd like to post the full build, along with what you're using it for and what your budget is, we'd be more than happy to cast an eye over it!

I think for 5x3.5" drives you're probably limited to the Fractal Meshify 2, FRACTAL DEFINE 7 or FRACTAL DEFINE 7 XL cases.

the inwin 4u rack chasis has bays for 4 3.5" and 1 2.5" drives. your best bet would be more along the lines of a server case. if pcs doesnt carry a specific case, you can technically send in your own, but obviously the cost of the case and the courier would be on you.

as for the motherboards, your best bet is to look for something under the servers or workstations pages, as these would be designed for higher storage capacities (and therefore more drives!) for example, asus ws c422 which does indeed have 6 sata connections

Thank you to everyone for those responses. Lots of research to be done!!
I'll be back with more questions when I get my requirements better defined.

If I configure a PCS desktop system with a specific case and my chosen hardware, are the fans included as part of the case?
Does the configurator decide how many fans are required?
Or does a specific case come with a fixed set of fans installed?

You'll get the same fans that come with the case and any that come with the cooler. In almost all situations, that'll be enough.

just as a side thought, when specc'ing a system,
if order extra fans, eg better ones - can PCS remove included case fans, and replace them with the better spec extra ones (eg remove included ones and replace with say same size but higher quality 3rd party ones), is this something they can offer? so the amount of fans doesnt change, just the ones used?

Depends on the case I guess. You could order additional fans but if the case has space available for them and the fans that come with case, they will just add them as additional fans. For example, the 5000X has 1 rear fan, 3 top, 3 side and 3 front, but only comes with 3 fans. You could place the order and then contact PCS to get a note added to order with instructions to add or replace fans as you require
