I have bought 2 Gaming Rigs from PCS and would not go anywhere else. I value the opinions of some of the established names on the forum. SpyderTracks was especially helpful on my last build. This build will be for pure gaming and I want a machine that will last a long time. I know VRAM has become the latest talking point when it comes to gaming and that's why I opted for the AMD card.

I have always bought NVIDIA so I am a little worried going AMD. One thing is I have little interest in Ray Tracing so not sure if that matters. As always all help greatly appreciated.

My daughter started Uni in September so the desktop has been claimed by her!
This is the way, cool, let's have a look then.

Totally get where you're coming from, I haven't bought an AMD GPU for many years, but they really have come an awfully long way with GPU's in the last 3 generations or so. The 5000 series were DOA, those just had issues at a design level that could never really be rectified. Then the 6000 series, Lisa Su recognised that the drivers sorely needed a lot of work and invested heavily in top developer talent. 6000 series were good, but still a little sketchy with the driver often crashing. But 7000 series do seem to have really gotten them up to par, don't get me wrong, drivers are still not as polished as Nvidia, but the whole package is so much more reliable. I'm going to be getting an AMD GPU this generation also, and my cousin recently built a new rig around a 7900XT and really loves it (he's always been Nvidia also).

Regarding the build, it's top end, but all balanced very well. Of course you could save an awful lot of money if you wanted to but I think you realise that.

The only amendment I may suggest is upping the PSU to the 1200w SHIFT series, that's a brand new ATX 3 standard which is far more efficient and actually allows for double the rating of the PSU in transient spikes which is a thing modern graphics cards tend to do. But it's mainly to have the new ATX 3 design and be as up to date as possible.

As always the advice is greatly appreciated. Changed the PSU to what you suggested and also changed the GPU to the standard non OC edition. I was already over budget by about £200!! so made a few more changes to the Case, SSD and Cooler hopefully not to the determent to the build. This will be a purely gaming build and I am hoping not to have to make upgrades for several year but when the time comes for an upgrade it will be in a state to do so.

That's good to know about AMD GPU'S. I am just finding it harder to pay more for less regarding NVIDIA. I do believe the 7900XT would be suffice but I thought if I can stretch for the XTX the extra 4GB VRAM may just be worth the extra premium.

Yeah, it's just shaved some of the bling off but won't change performance at all, it's a good fit.

That case design is absolutely stunning, usually that would mean poor airflow, but they've really managed to design it around a killer performance as well, so it's a superb case.

The case only comes with 2 front 140mm fans, then you'd have the additional 2 x 120mm fans on the cooler on the roof, I'd suggest just getting one addition corsair AF120 for the rear as an extractor.

And regarding the GPU, yeah, no need for overclocked cards these days for gaming as the GPU itself automatically overclocks, so there's almost no margin to be gained in a gaming workload. It's more for rendering or something where it may be able to net 10%.

The core platform is solid as hell, you won't need to change that for the lifetime of the build, BUT it will support future CPU generations so you do have the option if you wanted to down the line. The GPU will need to be swapped mid lifetime, but other than that, it's a solid build.
