Clevo Control Center and Drivers

Hi all. Recently got my 17.3" DEFIANCE V RTX laptop from PC Specialist, and it is awesome.

Just looking for some help really. I finally found out the model is related to Clevo, and I have a model number of P970RN. I was looking for drivers in case anything had updated, but I cannot find this model anyway. Nearest I find is P9xxEx which is the E series, where as I need the R series.

I know most drivers e.g. Intel, Nvidia and RealTek are provided online via update services such as Geforce Experience, WIndows Update and Intel Driver Utility etc, but I understand Clevo provide their own utilities such as Control Centre 3.0 etc.

In my control centre, I cannot change power mode. By default it is on Quiet, but when I select Performance and click away and revisit it, the setting reverts to Quiet. Why is this? I also notice WIndows 10 power settings only has a balanced profile (no low power or high performance profiles). Is something overriding this?

I realised (after some research) that Windows 10 runs on Intel graphics, and only power apps or external displays utilise the RTX 2080 Q-MAX GPU. I have set this in the Nvidia control panel. So that is sorted now.

Can anyone help with my driver model and control centre power mode query?

Regards, Adam

Have you checked your PCS profile (on the main website) to see if the relevant drivers are in there?

Hi @steaky360 thanks for this. I found them on there shortly after posting. Does PC Specialist keep that driver list updated?

I'm more puzzled about the power mode being stuck (reverting back) to 'quiet' all the time. Any thoughts?

My experience has been that the quality of Windows Store apps varies quite a bit. If there is a desktop version of any app available I always use that in preference to a Windows Store version.

I am just getting my Defiance V up and running and have had similar problems. But I have noticed that some Apps work better downloaded and manually installed, while others are better off being automatically downloaded from Windows Store afterwards. In fact, only the overclocking Apps can be manually installed or have to be. Otherwise I just get a message to start them from Command Center 3.0, where they don't exist. I had an odd problem to begin with, which I think is related to country/region settings. My Windows 10 is in US English language, but I have chosen time zone, keyboard layouts etc to be Swedish. When I first installed Command center and related Apps from download, almost all texts displayed as "nil". I guess it was trying to install them in a language that is not supported. Windows Store fixed that and finally I can chose performance mode and keyboard back lighting easily. I will get around to mentioning this as soon as I am ready setting up this PC and writing a review.

I can also mention that the overclocking Apps, which I don't plan to use much anyway, has to be started with Administrator, but I just cannot figure out how to make this default for these apps. Normally you just select the Details of the shortcut and tell them to "run as Amdinistrator", but these are greyed out, so I have to lauch them manually that way.

Your windows isn't configured correctly basically, needs reinstalling.

Why do you say that? It's running like a Tesla right now and I just installed the OS from scratch as this computer is fresh from the factory. I haven't done anything wrong. It's the Command Center only that was the issue, but not anymore.

It's because you're using the windows store version, the fact you can't install the proper installation is the core issue, your OS isn't configured correctly for your region. That's going to cause a lot of issues going forwards, this won't be the only one.

I beg to differ, and I am the one sitting here with my computer. I have had loads of Clevo based laptops before. I am not exactly a novice with PCs and Windows. I may have explained myself a bit strange, but believe me, there is nothing wrong with my Windows.

It is completely correctly installed for my region. All selection was done during Windows setup. It is the Command Center installation program that is buggy, as it was downloaded from PC Specialist.

So why is it it works fine on everyone elses system?

You don't want the one from the PCSpecialist downloads page as that will be out of date, you need to download from Clevo, you're using an out of date version.

The reason I suggested the windows isn't configured correctly is because the run as admin is greyed out, that suggests something fundamentally wrong with the installation.

Maybe because few people run English Windows with a Scandinavian locale. I have however done this since Windows NT times, because it is most practical in my line of work within the IT industry. Also, I have had so much experience with Clevo's software to be enormously buggy altogether, but they're is still stuff you need.

OK, but the P970EN doesn't exist on the Clevo home page. And it is also interesting to note why PC Specialist provides guidance to use their downloads, when you were supposed to download stuff from Clevo directly.

If you ask PCS they will tell you that for current drivers you need to go to clevo directly. PCS only post the drivers available at the time of building to get you started, for any updated versions, you'll need to go to clevo.

The drivers you need are listed as below, takes a bit of getting used to clevo's references:

I have version 1.0.0.6 of CC from my PC Specialist Downloads.. whats the best way to update it? I dont know what my model number is.. i have a Proteus VII

From your PC Specialist account, or contact them to ask if there are any updates.

I think the Proteus is a Quanta chassis and you can't get the drivers / software for that from Quanta like you can with Clevos.

The software might not get updated very often. It won't be like GPU drivers where a new one comes out sometimes a few times a month, updates will generally be relatively infrequent.

Is the software currently working? If so, probably best not to update.

Spoke to PCS who said its a Quanta NLCA and that drivers should only be updated via PCS website as each Chassis version is unique to their own eg Version 2 of CC might damage mine so only use theirs

Fixed power mode issue in Control Centre. I removed the unresponsive Windows Store app version, installed the actual exe version of it, and then updated CC drivers to v1.34. The CC app on Windows Store just doesn't work (apply settings) for me.
Hi, I have the same problem with my control center 3.0 power modes. That it resets to quiet every time... I saw that your solution was to install the exe version, that is where I am stumped I cant find a download for control center except for Microsoft store. Could you maybe clarify where you downloaded it or point me in the correct direction? thx in advance
