Concerned about level of testing

I have sent this mail to PCSPECIALIST but I would be interested to know whether this is "normal" or not bearing in mind that this is what was shown on my order at 8.50 am on 24th September.

Hello there

I have just logged into my PCSPECIALIST account at 8.55 this morning to see that my order is marked as AWAITING DESPATCH.

Although this is good news I am a bit concerned at the level of testing that has been performed. Your notes state that:

In Testing - this means that your order has now entered the testing, configuration and quality control process.

In Quality Control - your order has been tested and is now in our "hot room" where the system will remain for at least 24 - 48 hours (2 - 48 hours for laptops) until we are satisfied that the system has passed our quality and performance checks. The "hot room" ensures the components in your system are "burned in" and that the system performs correctly before dispatch.

Awaiting Dispatch - order has passed through our production facility and has now moved through to our dispatch warehouse

This is the build progress

Based on these dates I do not see how my computer could have been in quality control “for at least 24 - 48 hours” and would welcome your comment.

Well there is 24hrs between testing and QC.
It may well have been built and tested in the morning and burned in for the afternoon and overnight.

If your still worried your best bet is to ring them before it gets dispatched.

I had something similar, don't think it's anything to worry about. They do overnight testing as well. Also as far as I remember, they have to update those states manually so they might not be completely accurate. Someone else can feel free to correct me on that though.

If it was built and tested yesterday (as stated) it cannot possibly have been in QA "for at least 24 hours" by 8.50 this morning unless it was built and tested during the early hours of yesterday (ie before 9.00 am).

Hello Michael,

That's correct as stated by the guys above, due to the backlog we have had we have had builders, testers etc etc in at 3.30am and as stated above on overtime.

We then leave them overnight running stress tests but as said the updates to the "which department is it in" have to be done manually by scanning the various labels on the machine, welcome pack etc etc.

We have also streamlines a LOT of our processes so we aren't moving machines from one bench to another, moving to a burn room, which also make s a massive difference - i.e. from you order you placed in 2011:

In Building: 18-04-2011 | In Testing: 19-04-2011 | In Quality Control: 19-04-2011 | Awaiting Dispatch: 20-04-2011

Our processes have improved dramatically since then, saving us time and manpower.

Your machine physically cannot leave this building until it has been tested properly now and passed the various tests before leaving for awaiting dispatch, it cannot be skipped, the pass result is uploaded to our internal system and without this marker on the server, it cannot progress through our system :) (and it cant be bypassed).

PaulH and others - thank you for your prompt reply it is greatly appreciated. I do feel a bit more comfortable about it now although your reply does imply that "stress tests" are performed overnight (ie not over 24-48 hours) so perhaps you need to amend your order guide.

I work in IT myself (albeit on the software side) and I know how increased workload and reduced timescales can lead to decreased quality therefore seeing your order whistle through from start to finish in 24 hours is a little worrying.

But having already purchased a PC and a laptop previously from PC which have been trouble free I retain my confidence in the company.
