Considering this

Mainly play total war/silent hunter and odd other game though nothing which could be considered massively graphics heavy. Would like the pc to last me at least 5 years.
Anyway

Total war demands a strong CPU, considering over clocking your CPU, you can do it fairly cheaply, however it is not a necessity, with ROME II coming out soon however you may have to drop several settings back because of your CPU.

I've overclocked my 3570k to 4.5ghz and i've honestly noticed no difference in gameplay from the stock 3.5ghz or whatever it is at stock. I think you'll be fine with the 3570 and the 670 (same as me). It honestly blasts through anything i throw at it.

Pretty sure games don't utilise the i7 CPU's :)

I read up on it a little, and some larger youtubers out there whilst creating setup videos, encourage Overclocking for CPU intensive games,
Also http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2012/05/01/intel-core-i5-3570k-cpu-review/6 , theres a minimum 14fps increase for overclocking (Although this is @5GHz), but for a 4.6 - 4.8GHz there wont be that much difference I don't believe, overclocking isn't too expensive either so for around £50-100 I see overclocking as an improvement and worthwhile investment?

Personally, I'd either pocket the £50-100 or spend it on some peripherals. However, overclocking once you crack it is great fun ;)
