Coolermaster HAF-X Case Problem

Hello,

I've had my PC now for probably 10-11 weeks and it's been pretty good so far. But I've recently tried to install a EVGA Geforce GTX 780 Ti Superclocked into it and no matter what I do, the screw holes won't line up - so I can't screw the card to the case. So basically, it's currently held in place by just the motherboard PCI-E clip.

I've spoken to PCS on their email support, who have advised me to 'push the back of the case' to get them to line up.

I'm going to be honest. The case costs £130 at least brand new? Surely if the case was a decent quality one, no 'bashing' would be required? I had an Antec 900 V3 I think it was for 3 years and it was faultless. It's almost better quality than the Coolermaster to be fair.

So should I send the PC back to PCS and get them to change the case? It's the same story with the Asus Xonar Phoebus soundcard I've installed as well. That's just held in with the PCI socket, as the screws don't remotely line up with the case at all. When I say they don't line up, I'd have to drill holes to make it fit.

So this is either a poorly designed case, or a poor quality case, but either way, it's not good.

Any suggestions/help would be great.

Kind regards,

Ben

hmm odd, have you tried using a screw driver? Might just be a little tight for the first time?

I wonder if your motherboard has been installed on the wrong screw holes?...be a pain in the backside to check though.

Thanks for the replies!

Please see a photo attached of what it looks like. That's putting pressure on the card towards the case, and I don't want to force it any further as I think it'll snap the motherboard connector off, or the bottom of the card.

Hmm... I also have a Haf x and just ordered this very same graphics card. I'll see if I have the same problem when it arrives although I have managed to get my EVGA 770 to fit just fine. Never had any problems with this case. Have you tried installing it in a different slot?

I have the same case. I have installed a soundcard, cpu cooler and refitted the gpu without any issues. I am unsure why you are having problems with yours.

I imagined it being further off than that, its not enough to be what I suggested. Not really sure what else it could be unless the case has been bent or deflected in some way.

What motherboard do you have? Might be worth checking compatibility with the case although I doubt that would be the problem. Just checked my 770 and it has the same bracket as your card and it fits in my Haf x just fine. I would give PCS a call about replacing the case. Could have been bent in transit.

In my experience it's not all that unusual for the screw hole of a PCI card not to match up spot on,pushing the back of the case as suggested by PCS ,or moving the card slightly up or down usually solves the problem.

I used some force with the case last night (I wasn't expecting the back to actually give much, but it did), and I managed to make the screw holes line up on both parts, so both my sound card and graphics card are now fully secured in the case.

Cheers,

Ben
