Copying between drives starts fast, then slows massively

Hi everybody

I have a video editing machine with a 4TB HDD for storing video files on and a 2TB SSD where I put the project files and clips I am editing. When I copy a folder full of files (up to 300GB-worth) from the HDD to the SSD it starts copying at a fair old lick – 2-2.5GB/s but then after about a minute it drops to around 200MB/s.

I'm guessing it's something to do with a cache but can I change the settings to get it to copy the whole folder at 2GB/s? I like that speed better.

The HDD data transfer rate (the rate at which data can be sucked off an HDD as the disk revolves under the heads) is about 160MB/s so a 200MB/s transfer rate from an HDD is pretty good.
