1. There are 2 types of RAM, 8GB KINGSTON SODIMM (1 x 8GB) and 8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X IMPACT (1 x 8GB). Is the second option worth the extra £2? What's the difference between them?

2. Apparently during Quality Control, a trial version of Windows is installed and then left on the machine. Is that true?

3. Does this spec look good?

I'm not sure but would assume it's windows 8 as they only use it to check for any faults. Also, if you can afford it then get the i7-4710mq

Choosing the Dual-Core was a very hard decision, I'm still not completely sure about it.
I'm worried about the Quad-Core negatively affecting battery life. Heat is also a concern, as I don't want the laptop to be too hot as that shortens it's lifetime and I heard it throttles the CPU . This could also result in louder fan noise.

The TDP of the i5 is 37w and the i7 is 47w, for double the cores and threads the 10w loss is worth it. Plus it won't use the cores if it doesn't need to, which will save battery life. I have a cosmos II with the 850m and i7-4710mq and it's fine, never overheats or throttles and it's a great CPU :)
