Cosmos incorrect GPU? What could I get for the similar price

I was excited when I saw Cosmos and its 740m DDR5 GPU, my reaction was: Great, I'll get this instead rather than the 650m since specs also shown would be higher.

However upon deep investigation.. There's no such thing as 740M DDR5 and the notebook model Clevo - w650eh (AKA Cosmos) supports only

 NnVIDIA® Geforce® 740M (N14P-GV2)
- 1GB DDR3 Video RAM
- Support PCIe x 8
- Microsoft® DirectX® 11.1 compatible
- nVIDIA PhysXTM
- GeForce CUDATM Technology
- nVIDIA® Optimus Technology

So if that's the case the whole gpu section specs is a lie... So did you accidentally miss typed this information or?...

So Shall I just get the 650m Enigma ?

There does seem to be a 740m with DDR5 memory - I can't speak for the Clevo not supporting it however, I'd suggest the laptop would support it imo although I'm certainly no expert so could easily be incorrect.

Interesting comparison between 740m and 650m here (might help you decide between the two? - not sure of the site's impartiality though): http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GT-740M-vs-GeForce-GT-650M#

The clevo laptop IS the Cosmos laptop, Pcspecialists sell rebranded Clevos.
As to the thing you just showed

Specs provided by pcspecialist:

1GB GeForce GT 740M 384 CUDA Cores Clock speed 980 MHz memory size 1024 Mb memory clock speed2500 MHz

First difference we see with your info and the one provided
Higher clock speed 850 MHz

Already, that's a lie.

And if there's such thing as 740m DDR5 show me a proof, show me a single place where you can get it or a record or it... PCspecialist is the only place I found... (Exlcuding the people asking about 740m DDR5 shown on pcspecialist website.)

Why would they lie? , if you are interested in purchasing the cosmos then I would suggest contacting PCS for a confirmation of the specs.

If they are lying, I'd advise them to change the specs to real ones before someone who bought Cosmos sues them since they have the full right to do so ._. ....

I'm aware PCSpec sell rebranded clevo laptops, I wasn't confused by that at all :) I was just trying to help bud. I did mention that I wasn't sure about the link's info I just thought it was an interesting comparison. Strangely enough, you picked up on the clock speed but not the fact the link seemed to show a 740m with DDR3 memory not DDR5.

I suspect the graphics clock is the upper-range of clock speeds at 980mhz (perhaps using GPU boost or something similar? - just a guess). Whatever it is, it won't be a lie.

However, http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-740m/specifications shows the memory as DDR3/GDDR5 so perhaps it is just a typo and should be GDDR5 instead of DDR5?

I would bet money that PCS are not lying about the product intentionally.

EDIT: Quickly looking at the way they name the other graphics cards they offer, they all seem to use the "DDR5" etc abbreviation. Maybe I'm just mistaken and its not meant to be GDDR5 (or maybe they are the same thing??? ) :sweatdrop:

Maybe someone over there messed up with writing down the specs? and I guess you're right, I'll be giving them a call tomorrow since it's bank holiday.

This seems too strange, the only place that has "740m DDR5" and the only place that has those specs with a model of clevo that doesn't even support that....

Anything above and including 630m Is noted to have DDR5 version, even though some of them aren't made with DDR5.. So yes.. it's a mistake :p
I Literally.. checked through hell and back and everywhere on the internet... There's no such thing/laptop that has 740m with DDR5... there's not a single even record/review/benchmark of 740m DDR5
