If there is anything that is a bit overkill for gaming, or anything that could do with raising the spec a little, I would love some help.

Thanks so much in advance.

When you’ve got your spec how you want it, click on proceed and then scroll to the bottom of the following page, there’s a ‘post build to forum’ option. Click on that and then copy and paste the whole page over onto this thread 👍

I’ve done a bit of an alternate spec for you with a few differences.

Changed the case to something with improved airflow. Removed the overclocking from the CPU as it’s not necessary with the Ryzen range. Lowered the RAM to 16GB as unless you’re playing flight sims you won’t need it. Put two M.2 drives in so you’ve got one for your OS and programs, one for your games. If you need to do a clean install of Windows you won’t have to download them all again. Put the luxury cooler in. Lastly, put the silver warranty on there for an extra fiver. No brainer 😁

Case
CORSAIR CRYSTAL SERIES 680X RGB GAMING CASE

@AgentCooper - thanks so much. Case looks decent! So definitely no need for the overclocked processor? Also, no need for the OS as I have a digital bought copy of Win10 Pro.
Like the idea on the two M.2 drives! Also, definitely no benefit of having 32GB ram?

@SpyderTracks - Are you sure? Wouldn't the 3080 have more longevity? Please could you explain more about why the3070 will do the job? I am a bit clueless with hardware and just want something that will run v fast and last me for a long time.

Is this build pretty powerful?

The GPU needs to match the monitor. If you have an overpowered gpu, it’s just a waste of money as the monitor will be the bottleneck and by the time you’ll need the extra power, new gpu will be out with better technologies and you’ll upgrade the gpu anyway, and likely the monitor in this instance. Aside from 360hz 1080p monitors, the 3000 series have really made 1080p dead. Even for competitive gaming you should be looking to step up to 1440p 240hz.

Like I said, it tends to be just flight sims that eat up RAM in the gaming world. I’ve got 16GB in my gaming system and it’s never struggled. More RAM can always be added later, it’s the easiest upgrade there is 👍

And Ryzen chips have a built in frequency boost so they’re pretty much overclocked already 😈
