Defiance II - Weird Issue

Hi all,
I got my Defiance II about one month ago and Yesterday I had a really weird issue.
The key specs are: i7-6700HQ, GTX 965M, 16GB RAM, Intel AC 8260 and 250GB Samsung SSD.
All the drivers are up to date, control center is installed but not enabled on startup.
I had only one BSOD while gaming during the first week but never happened again.

I used the laptop at work in the morning and plugged in to the usual power outlet with its charger.
When I finished working I turned off the laptop (plugged), unplugged it from the power source and placed it in its case.
When I got home in the evening I turned on my PC, but after pressing the power button:
- the keyboard (and the power button) lightened up
- the screen remained black (even no backlight)
- no PCSpecialist logo (and no BIOS access)
- full fan speed
- blinking of the three green lock leds
- automatic shutdown after few seconds

I tried to start up it few times even pressing the power button for a longer time and finally I gave up. Today morning I did it again and - what? - it just started as nothing happened.
I searched on the net and also a user with a Clevo P150 (if i remember correctly) had the same issue, and resolved it via RMA as his laptop did not turned on again.
I also read that it could be linked to sleep/hybernate mode.

Did someone had the same problem?

Thanks,
Ale

I've also got the same problem. Def II, 970M, and 120 SSD, which I've got for a week (!).
If the screen does not turn on after pressing the power button, the laptop is silent for a moment, then goes loud (fans turn on), and after a moment it turns itself off.
The amount of time it takes to get it working is inconsistent. Sometimes its 10 attempts, sometimes it starts immediately.

Just happened again.
I tried to boot it up removing:
- All RAM
- Only one bank of RAM
- SSD
- Battery (and plugged it to power source)

And also:
- Using a bootable USB
- Pressing the power button for 10-20-30-60 secs with or without the battery

None of the methods worked. I have tried to start it about 15-20 times.

So as the last time I just left the notebook on the desk, and today morning I'm writing this post from the laptop.

I have also checked the Events Viewer, there are few critical errors from today morning:
- 30/04/2016 10:18:30 Kernel-Boot: Windows failed startup with error status 0xC00000D4
- 30/04/2016 10:18:31 Kernel-Power: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutdown first (...)
- 30/04/2016 10:18:38 EventLog: the last shutdown at 4:15:56 PM on 4/29/2016 was unexpected
- 30/04/2016 10:18:42 Dhcp-Client: something about IP address being denied

In some other forums I read that it could be related also to false overheating, but no one clearly knows the meaning of the three blinking leds.
I contacted PCs that replied to me that the problem could arise from the mobo rejecting one of the RAM modules, but as the problem was present also after removing the RAM I'd say that it's not the RAM, but probably some problem from the dGPU/iGPU system (as the totally black and unpowered screen would suggests).

Just to be sure I disabled fast boot and hybernate.

In any case it's an awkward issue for a 1200 € laptop, furthermore it seems to be a niche problem.

You say you've disabled Hotkey in startup, if you re-enable it does the problem still occur? Hotkey is a pretty critical driver that links to most drivers within the system including nvidia Optimus.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Honestly I don't know. The pc came without the control center installed, so I installed it.
I have disabled it as I use it few times, and it increases a bit the startup time.
Now it is enabled, I will report further issues.. but I hope that this won't be happening again :)

Hi there, I realise this post is very old but my Defiance has just started to have this problem after using it for the last 5 years! Did you manage to resolve the issue?
