Hi all. I'm studying 3D animation and though my current desktop does technically run the software it is fairly limited with what it can achieve, not to mention the render time, I've managed to come up with the funds to buy a spanking new desktop. My problem is I didn't really know anything about PCs until recently and am still somewhat seeped in ignorance. I've done some research into what would be best but not been able to come up with a definitive answer. So, anyway.......
I'll mostly be running 3DsMax, Mudbox and assorted Adobe programs but intend to investigate some other similar programs if I get the chance. I've heard that intel processors are generally a bit better for this sort of thing but have heard arguments for both Intel and AMD processors. Hoping to stick to a budget of around £750 I came up with this, with the intention of upgrading the RAM and/or graphics as life deems necessary. It will be running on Windows 7.
Processor (CPU)
AMD A10-6800K Quad Core APU (4.4GHz) & Radeon™ HD 8670D Graphics
Motherboard
ASUS® A58M-E FM2+ (M-ATX, DDR3, USB 2.0, 3Gb/s)
Memory (RAM)
16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X FURY DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 660 - 2 x DVI, HDMI, - 3D Vision Ready
1st Hard Disk
240GB KINGSTON V300 SSD, SATA 6 Gb (450MB/R, 450MB/W)
2nd Hard Disk
1TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s HDD 7200RPM 32MB CACHE
Power Supply
CORSAIR 650W VS SERIES™ VS-650 POWER SUPPLY
Processor Cooling
CoolerMaster Seidon 120V High Performance CPU Cooler (£39)
I'm currently working with an Intel 3.3GHz dual core of some sort, 4 gig of RAM and a GTX5500 (I think) and, as I say, it's distinctly 'OK', so I'm guessing this will be considerably better but would appreciate some confirmation before throwing about £750 at it. If anyone reckons it's definitely worth getting an i5/i7, I could maybe drop some RAM and/or graphics to balance the difference in cost. The AMD/Intel differences is what's confusing me most!
Thanks
