Desktop Start-up Issues

This issue concerns a puzzling fault I have with my PCSpecialist desktop. Used primarily as a dedicated standalone word processor, it has given flawless service for several years now. It's the most reliable PC I've ever owned in fact. Now, however, it has given up the ghost, albeit not without giving me fair warning. The problem first showed its face a couple of months ago when the start-up button failed to live up to its billing. The button's light would flicker briefly into life, then nothing. A workaround was found by physically unplugging the mains cable at the back - both ends, mark you - and then replugging it again. Press the start-up button again - and bingo, the desktop comes to life. I have switched main cables, but it made no difference at all. I still had to go through the fan dance of unplugging and replugging the cable to get things going. Now, however, even that's no longer enough. Nothing happens at all, not even a flicker. Zilch. I'm no PC engineer (perish the thought), but I do wonder if the desktop's got a hardware fault of some kind. Any suggestions or tips would be very welcome. Thanks in advance.

Can you post your full specs from the order page?

It would be very worthwhile upgrading to windows 10, it's free and is in support.

Office 2003 as well is extremely outdated now and worth upgrading.

I have have the desktop for about eight years now, and unfortunately I do not have the specs on hand at the present time (aside from the original PCSpecialist 'Welcome' box). I doubt, in fact, if PCSpecialist produce my model of desktop any longer. All I can say for certain that it is a basic model with a small SSD drive and eight gig of memory. . . most of which is never used, given Office 2003's modest footprint. All I can add to this thumbnail account is that the problem appears to be essentially hardware/mechanical rather than a software one. At a surmise I suspect the transformer is blown and/or an electrical fault with the start-up button has occurred. In any case I shall take the desktop to our local PC repairers in the hope a solution can be affected. I posted the issue here because having found the business about the mains cable(s) highly intriguing to say the least, I was interested to gather what experts such as yourself might make of it. Thanks for getting back to me.
