I currently own a Desktop running Window 7 Home Premium (32-bit) & Ubuntu 11.10 (32-bit), AMD Phenom 9850 (2.5GHz, quad-core), ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR3, two Western Digital 3.5" 7200RPM SATA 3G/bs (160GB system drive, 2TB media drive) with 4GB (2x2GB) Kingston HyperX Genesis 1066MHz DDR2 RAM.

Due to various reasons, I have decided my best option is to migrate my desktop to a laptop. How do you think the two compare? Improvement? Equal? Worse?

Background: will be used for watching movies, internet & office, playing games no less than a year old, plus occasional HD video encoding.

what do you mean by migrating

i strongly recommend you do not get 32-bit Windows its pretty outdated and only used if specific programs dont run on 64-bit, even though it has a compatibility mode

get the upgraded thermal paste too

and silver warranty for a fiver

you are probably gonna want a bigger HDD seeing as it can only take one HDD, i recommend a hybrid drive, they are still much quicker than a standard drive and not too expensive for a decent sized drive

By migrating I mean moving everything I do on my desktop to doing it on a laptop.

Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit) is for program compatibility. Thermal Paste I missed. Silver Warranty already checked. I'm only using about 60-70GB of my Operating System drive, most of my media is on a separate 2TB HDD, which I'm gonna convert into an external / NAS drive so I'm going for the 120Gb Kingston HyperX SSD (ignore above).

Thanks for your suggestions though.
