Do I need this many case fans?

Looking at getting a new build as my son will be getting my current one. I like to keep things cool but not sure if this is overkill as far as case fans go.

Probably excessive.

But more generally, what's the PC for? What monitor will you be using? What's the budget?

Hi pal. Looking at about £2500.

Used for gaming, new modern warfare, cities skylines 2. But also for music production.

Monitor is a Samsung odyssey. 32” 1440p. Tempted to look for a 4K upgrade.

Alright guys,

I can’t post my specs as the processor is out of stock so I can’t copy and paste 😂

Anyway, I’m going for the Ryzen 7950X
But I’m torn between the 4070 or 4070TI

If I go for the 4000D airflow case and few fans, I can save about £100+ then opt for the TI. But, would this case provide enough airflow for the 7950X and 4070TI with one extra case fan?

Other alternative is going for the 4070, but use the 5000D with a few extra fans.

If the 4000D will provide enough cooling, I’d rather go with the TI

I’ll be going with the Corsair h150i elite capellix too.

Sorry for not replying before. I was on holiday and missed it!

I'd be looking at something different and saving elsewhere. You don't need X670E from the sounds of it. You can get away with cheaper but still very good storage. You can reduce your spend on the cooler. And you can get the best gaming CPU there is and save money for the graphics card.

Here's what I'd go for:

Case
CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE The other option is the Fractal Meshify 2
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core CPU (4.2GHz-5.0GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) The best gaming CPU there is; will also be great for most audio scenarios (if you really need lots of cores, go for the 7950X3D: would still be under £2600)
Motherboard

ASUS® TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI (AM5, DDR5, PCIe 4.0, Wi-Fi 6) Downgraded the motherboard unless you are sure you need X670E features
Memory (RAM)

32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 16GB) Faster RAM is good for Ryzen performance
Graphics Card

12GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4070 Ti - HDMI, DP, LHR Very powerful, top-end 1440p
1st M.2 SSD Drive

512GB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 4700MB/sW) Boot drive
1st M.2 SSD Drive

2TB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 6500MB/sW) Games/work drive
Power Supply

CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET Upgraded PSU for more capacity and upgrade potential
Power Cable

1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR iCUE H115i ELITE CAPELLIX XT RGB High Performance CPU Cooler Arguably overkill for the 7800X3D, but should be quiet
Thermal Paste

STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Extra Case Fans
2 x 120mm Thermaltake TOUGHFAN 12 Case Fans Probably also unnecessary, certainly if you go for the Fractal case, but will make sure the front of the case has a full complement of fans
Sound Card

ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
ONBOARD 2.5Gbe LAN PORT
USB/Thunderbolt Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS

Hi pal. Appreciate your comments.
Excuse my lack of knowledge, what makes the 7800 better or the best for gaming?

The 7800X3D is the fastest gaming processor available at the moment. The 7950x isn't a gaming processor, it's for heavy multithreaded workloads like rendering or scientific calculations

Modern CPUs are complex. One of the most important aspects for gaming is the cache, the very fast memory available on the CPU die. The 7800X3D has lots of it (stacked vertically, which is what the 3D refers to). It blows every other CPU away.

The only real competition is the 7950X3D, which is basically the 7800X3D and a 7700X merged together, so you theoretically get the gaming performance of the former and the combined multicore performance of both together. It doesn't quite work as well as that, but if you really need all the cores for audio work it's a good compromise.

Really appreciate your help pal. Changing the motherboard is a game changer also.

What about this config? Still tweaking. Music production needs more cores hence the 7950X3D
Do I really need the 5000D case or can I get away with the 4000D in your opinion?

I think you're going a bit overboard with fans (which could add noise) and that cooler is more than you need, but it's one hell of a system. The only tweak I'd definitely make is to change to the regular thermal paste, as Corsair coolers come with excellent paste pre-applied, so it'll gain you nothing.

Thanks pal. Do you think I could get away with the smaller 4000D case?

I would say so, unless you can anticipate getting a very top end graphics card in the future.

But if you do go for the 4000D I'd definitely go for a smaller cooler (H100i or H115i) so that it fits in the roof of the case rather than the front.

There’s now £150 difference between the 7950X and the 7950X3D.
It must have gone up over night. Hope it comes back down by the time I need to buy 😞

When do you envisage buying, all quotes are valid for 3 working days I think it is

That figure was also in the back of my mind, but wasn't sure so thought I'd err on the cautious side :ROFLMAO:
Either way it's not very long, so you do have to be quick if you're working to a budget.

Prices are extremely volatile, BUT the RTX 4000 Supers are due for announcement shortly although I very much doubt that's going to reduce current prices, I think they'll charge more for them rather than reducing current prices.
