Driver_Irql_not_less_or_equal (kbdclass.sys)

Had a BSOD on my new laptop - it was the:

"Driver_Irql_not_less_or_equal (kbdclass.sys)" system error.

Doing a quick Google suggests it's a driver problem with the keyboard. I'm not using an external keyboard, so it must be something to do with the built-in one. I've installed all the drivers listed on the downloads page for this machine.

I've done a sfc /scannow and it's not found any problems.
Have done a device manager hardware scan, and it's not found anything. All drivers seem to be installed fine.

Have tried uninstalling Control Center, now testing to see if the BSOD reoccurs.

Laptop spec is in footer (Nova series). Running Win 10 Pro v2004

Looked for updated drivers on the Clevo website for my system (these drivers) but can't seem to download most of them as "file is missing". Weird.

Has anyone else had this problem and managed to solve it? Crash was random (during a game) and has not been frequent.

Thanks

When you received it did you do a clean install or just license the test installation?

Clean install. Have installed the drivers listed under the downloads section for my build, apart from the Nvidia drivers, as newer ones have since been available.

That may be the issue, the drivers in your download section will be outdated.

I would do a clean install again. Let windows update find all drivers except nvidia and clevo control center which you need to get from clevo directly.

What’s the chassis number? Should be on a label on the underside of the laptop.

Chassis is NH55ADY.

Where's the link for Clevo control centre? I couldn't find this online, so I installed it from the download section (like you say is probably old).

I had to install some drivers that Windows couldn't find - the "airplane" driver and the soundblaster driver software. Others I installed from the download section (even though I didn't necessarily need to). Will give your suggestion a go.

The BSOD Doctor
If you have a dump from the BSOD and you'd care to upload it to the cloud and post a link I'll take a look. Just because the BSOD says kbdclass.sys that doesn't guarantee this was the failing driver. :)

Also...what antimalware tools are you using? Anything apart from Windows Defender and Windows Firewall?

Thanks, have uploaded the memory.dmp here.

I'm not using any third party AV or firewalls, just the default Windows built-in ones.

The BSOD Doctor
Ok....the process in control at the time of the BSOD was HuntGame.exe - I don't know what that is but it seems game related.

There are two drivers that have problems in the dump, the most serious (and most likely cause of the BSOD) is nvlddmkm.sys shown here...

Code:
ffffd109`6de6c6b8 fffff806`6a127709 Unable to load image
\SystemRoot\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nvcvi.inf_amd64_4fec5c05dfc4819c\nvlddmkm.sys, Win32 error 0n2

...that is the Nvidia graphics driver of course, so that's where I'd start. Use DDU to uninstall all previous driver versions and then install the latest version downloaded from the Nvidia website.

The other failing driver is netwtw10.sys shown here....

Code:
ffffd109`6de6d5a8 fffff806`67f5ba97 Unable to load image \SystemRoot\System32\drivers\Netwtw10.sys, Win32 error 0n2
Netwtw10+0x44ba97

...that is a component of the Intel PRO/Set WiFi driver package, so I'd also install the Intel Driver Support Assistant and check whether there are driver upgrades for your wireless card. Experience has taught me to only ever install the driver itself and not anything else from the PRO/set package - I've encountered problems with this junk software before.

Thanks. Huntgame.exe is a game - Hunt: Showdown, I was playing this when the crash happened.

Have reinstalled the Nvidia driver as suggested, and checked my wireless drivers using the tool you suggested. It says it's up-to-date.I agree, I never install all the other junk, just the driver.

We'll see how I go now. It's only happened once, but I've not had the laptop very long. Be easier to diagnose if it happened more frequently!

Thanks for your help

I got the exact error a while ago while playing Overwatch. I think I updated my drivers since then and I havent had that BSOD for a couple of weeks now. Do you have automatic driver installation turned on?

Just for context I have exaucly the same laptop Nova with 3600 & RTX 2070

Yeah, but manual installation. Yeah, have the latest drivers installed.

Have played for about 4 hours straight without issue so far.
