Hiya, depends what for, for normal display it will drive up to 8k quite happily.

For gaming it will be low FPS, probably under 60. Laptop graphics are far less powerdul than desktop. So laptop 3080 is around a desktop 3070.

That's just normal display. Even on board graphics can do that.

I know the laptop's screen is only HD resolution max. So I can now plug in a 4k monitor for higher resolution?
If they the case I will order a new monitor.

Yes, any GPU cananage 4k for basic output, doesn't need a dedicated GPU
