Dual Booting - will both OSs be able to access all data

Hi

I am thinking of installing Ubuntu and dual booting it and windows 7. Will both operating systems be able access all my data?

Also I noticed that my Caviar Green 1tb HDD has 3 ports. one is the SATA port, another is the SATA power supply port and the third is an 8 pin port (two rows of four), what is it?

i've used ubuntu to recover files from a windows os before, it gave access to all files including those in users profiles, i don't know if it works both ways however as i just used a ubuntu boot cd.
