DVD Drive Not Writing

To all,

I just received a 17.3" Cosmos II with Win 7.

I'm having problems with the 8x SATA DVD±R/RW/Dual Layer (+ 24x CD-RW) DVD drive not being able to write.

I would like to know for sure what driver it should have.

Currently it has the following :-

Device Manager
DVD/CD-ROM drives
TSST corp CDDVDW SN-208FB SCSI CdRom Device

Driver Provider : Microsoft

Driver Date : 21/06/2006

Driver version : 6.1.7601.17514

Windows 7 says the driver is up to date however 2006 seems rather old to me.

Also my spec was for SATA rather than SCSI which maybe is an issue.

Is this the correct driver ?

If not where could I get the correct one from ?

Thanks

Richard

What were you trying to write to and what software were you using too write?

and yes the 2006 driver is fine as default and so is SCSI it says that but the device is Sata. My laptops Bluray still ues the 2006 drivers from stok and writes fine

When you say it doesn't write, what do you mean? Does your laptop recognise it as a DVD Burner? Or only a DVD ROM? Did it eject the blank disc and then complain? Or does it just do nothing?

Not sure if its a driver issue really.

When the laptop arrived it would not read properly from the DVD drive. I phoned pc-specialist and they helped me use Win7 to install the driver referred to in my first post.

After I installed Norton anti virus using the DVD drive I tried to write a system image to some sony DVD-R disks using the Win7 system image backup tool.

It said it was formatting the first DVD-R disk for a few minutes and then it said the formatting had failed and spat the disk out.

I tried formatting a sony DVD-RW disk by left clicking on Start, Computer and right clicking on DVD RW Drive(D: ) and left clicking on format. Again it failed after a while and spat the disk out.

I tried writing an mpeg file to a sony DVD-RW disk using windows media player. It said it was 99% done for a while and then it said the burn had failed and it spat the disk out.

I made my first post on the forum to see if the driver was likely to be the problem.

After your responses I tried the following :-

Put a sony DVD-RW disk into my 2 year old desktop and erased it.

Inserted the DVD-RW disk into my new laptop's DVD drive.

Selected "Burn files to disc using windows explorer" from the autoplay window.

Copied two mpeg3 files into the window it opened.

Selected the option to make a data disk.

Tried to burn disk.

The attempt to burn lasted a few minutes and then failed.

"There was a problem burning this disc"
"The disk might no longer be usable."

Put the DVD-RW disk back into my desktop. Erased it. Then repeated above using the desktop instead of the laptop and was able to burn successfully.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Richard
