Hi there,

I've just moved into my first home with my girlfriend and for our area we've decided to go for ee fibre optic, they give you a choice of two options being a 2.4ghz connection and a 5ghz connection, my computer is in the room just above the router but I still can't pick up the 5ghz signal, I have the dual band of specialist offer in there computer (4 years ago anyway).

Could it be my computer?

5GHz is known to have far less building material penetration than 2.4GHZ, so it could well be the floor between that is absorbing the weaker 5GHz signals. Try switching to 2.4GHz and see whether that's better?

Either switch to 2.4ghz or add an access point upstairs, either by way of a repeater (access point/router) or home plugs, to extend your 5ghz range.
