Elimina II SSD issue

Hi,

I got my laptop little over a year ago now and everything is going great with it. Recently however I have tried to install a secondary m.2 SSD into the available slot and when I boot up the laptop it freezes and the OS doesn’t boot up until I take the SSD out.

Would this be a software issue with windows or would it be a hardware issue?

Thanks,
Ethan

I would suspect the new drive TBH. Any chance you could test it in a different PC/laptop?

See I tried it in the slot where the original SSD was in to see if it mattered and it worked fine but once I put it in the secondary port it just freezes up the whole system

It could be that that slot only accepts SATA M2 drives.

Or that the drive isn't inserted correctly.

Ok, I think I fixed it. I went into the bios and enabled VMD mode and that stopped the system from freezing when I installed the drive but now I need to reinstall windows as it cannot detect the operating system anymore

VMD is for RAID support, have you got raid mode enabled? If so, it shouldn't be, you need to disable that.

There's no reason VMD should affect individual boot ports, unless RAID is enabled.

It should be set to AHCI

I would suggest that, to be on the safe side and avoid damaging anything, that you call PCS with your order number and the full details of the new SSD and ask PCS to verify that the new SSD will work in that second slot.
