Elimina Pro 17.3" build - Opinions please

Will be used for playing WOW and some games on Steam like Counter Strike, will also probably play Pubg and Fortnite. I would like to be able to run everything on max settings, super smooth. Max budget is £1500 so I have wondered if i should reduce the RAM to 32GB (2x16) and maybe go for a cheaper 1TB SSD to allow for RTX 4070 instead? Although I know that the games I play wont require more than the 4060 for max settings. I have checked the spec on User Benchmark and it gets a UFO rating, but wanted to check on here as I'm sure you all know what's good and what's not. Any advice appreciated.

The only other question I have is does the 17.3 Elimina Pro chassis have good enough cooling power for this build or will I also need a Laptop cooling pad?

I've swapped the RAM to 32GB (2x16) now, saving £70.

Is it worth putting that towards a 4070 or is the 4060 Good enough for my use?

Well, the desktop 4060 isn't a 1440p GPU, so the laptop version will be slightly worse.

Not sure the £50 saving on the RAM (BTW, no need for 64GB unless you KNOW you have a specific need for it) makes up for the £230 extra of the 4070, but if the budget is there, then the 4070 would be a better bet, but it still won't be as capable as the desktop version, so ensure you're benchmarking like-for-like when you use the benchmarking sites / youtube videos.

I'm not a fan of PCS-branded components, so would probably pay the extra £10 for the Corsair RAM.

On a laptop, gpus can’t be replaced and that will be the first bottleneck, so you spec that as high as you possibly can to extend the lifespan.

Thank you both for your feedback on this.

I think i'll swap out the 4060 with 4070 and reduce RAM from 64 to 32 just to save a little. It knocks off £70 meaning I'm essentially paying £130 more to upgrade to 4070. My budget doesn't stretch to more than this unfortunately.

What is it about the PCS branded stuff that makes you advise this?

Mainly because they're an unknown. We don't know what manufacturer makes them, or their specs, so it makes it impossible to research properly.

We also (anecdotally) tend to see more issues / queries on PCS items than we do on the branded items - i.e. more failures (RAM and SSDs), noisier components (pumps & fans) - but this could purely be down to more being sold...and we don't know the ratio of components between PCS to Corsair for example.

If it's a 5-10% extra cost then I'd go with the branded items. If it's more than that then it might come down to what your budget can stretch to.

I see, I greatly appreciate the time taken to explain, thank you. I'll upgrade to the Corsair it's £8 more so not a big deal.

Thank you!

So I'll go for this. a little over budget but I think it's worth the extra.

Is the £20 dead pixel guarantee worth it? Do these tend to suffer?

By law manufacturers are allowed a number of dead pixels and the panel is allowed to be sold.

Dead pixel protects against that and you’ll get a perfect unit. IMHO it’s essential.

I guess my final question would be is it likely I'll need a cooling pad of some kind or are these Elimina Pro's pretty good at cooling themselves?

IMHO, cooling pads are pretty pointless in general, the ones that are worth it are expensive.

But a cooling pad that just has fans within it flat blowing air into the bottom of the laptop is going to have absolutely zero impact. Vents on a laptop are normally in the sides and back, so the air flow never reaches within the chassis anyway.

Any laptop should be find without a cooling pad anyway, they're designed to move the air out of the chassis themselves.

Many things were already said, but I suggest you to take the golden warranty, with laptop, it's really helpful if needed
100% agree with this, it's not like a desktop where you can replace individual components, on a laptop the big components like GPU, motherboard are all soldered, so if the GPU fails, you have to replace the entire board and GPU which is very expensive.

Best to cover yourself as long as possible.

You can order it with say silver which is only £5er and then extend that before the silver runs out if you're short of cash at purchase time.
