Enigma VI Review

I use less than 4GB in pretty much all the situations I use it for, so that should be fine. I don't actually know if this one is user upgradable in terms of RAM, and if it is you'd need 1x8GB as it will only have 1 slot.[/QUOTE]
Are you sure? I thought the same because of the slim design, but in the configurator it says 2x4GB.

Sorry I've not been able to get a photo as I was out all day looking at houses which I'd forgotten about. I shone a torch on the screen and it was still pretty usable, and I did use it by the window for an hour or so which made no perceptible difference to me in usability.

Shone a torch on it. Ha. Tom you are amazing. Don't worry about the photo my friend. Life's too short. The screen sounds fine. I'll go ahead and order. Thanks for all of your help and good luck with the house hunting.

Are you sure about that? I was expecting only one slot as well because of the slim design, but the configurator tells me 8GB is 2x4GB:

Well it seemed appropriate :p. Hopefully that laptop works well for you! Glad I could help.

Quick update on the CPU being stucked to 800Mhz when on battery. With the program Throttlestop (version 8 beta 5) it works wonderfully. As soon as I open the program the CPU starts using the turbo mode.

Perfect, thanks for the update and I'll give that a go. Glad it's not hard locked in the BIOS or something like that.

Interesting, I wonder why it's configured to only 800mhz on battery. If its a problem with the battery not being powerful enough for that current for long periods ,that could be a problem. Would be interesting to hear from pcspecialist if this would be safe to do.

Also I saw people talking about ram upgrades and slots. According to the website the laptop has 'soldered' memory which means the memory cannot be upgraded in the future at all. So when buying this laptop you should consider upgrading to 8gb option if you think you might need it at some point.

Using Prime95, with clocks locked at 800Mhz the power draw is 3.5W (from the CPU only), with the clocks unlocked it pushes 4.8-5.1W, so about 40% higher power draw on the CPU, probably something like 20-30% overrall. I would hazard a guess that the battery should be able to sustain this, as it should have a pretty decent safety margin and most likely the clock limit is for battery life reasons. That being said it could still pose an issue so don't do anything on my advice. I'll let anybody know if anything bad happens to me :).

Update after having the laptop a few weeks.

Pros:

- Battery life is excellent and I very rarely run out of power before I've finished using the laptop (I take it up to campus for a day at university etc)
- The screen is pretty nice, and it has good viewing angles

Cons:

- The fact the touchpad buttons are part of the touchpad is actually really annoying
- The speakers are terrible (in my opinion, as I said, I'm picky), they do resonate on certain notes and volumes, and are pretty tinny. Loud enough though.
- The touchpad sometimes doesn't respond for a little bit, unsure whether to contact PCS about that because I'm sure it should work flawlessly.

I've just ordered this Laptop and i'm very chuffed with it . The only issue i have with it is the mousepad. does anyone know if there are drivers which can allow for two finger scrolling? This would improve the experience of the laptop massively for me !

I too am interested in this point! I'm so used to using two finger scrolling I'd be very frustrated without it! Otherwise, I'm quite interested in this laptop!

Hi, I'm also thinking of getting this laptop.
Before ordering though I was hoping someone could answer me if the laptop feels 'cheap' or is made from good quality materials like metal and feels 'premium'.
Thanks to anyone who replies.
