ESATA drive not recognised?

Searched but I could not find any other threads with a similar problem, so here goes. I just purchased an external esata enclosure and drive. However when I connect it either to the front or the rear esata port the PC does not recognise it. I've tried rescanning devices with no luck. I know the drive works OK as I connected it in exactly the same way to my Dell laptop and it's recognised and immediately useable. Also, if I take out the esata cable and use a standard USB connection the PC picks it up straight away.

I did notice when I look in Device Manager that I can see all the USB Controllers, but I can't see anything that says esata (however could be my technical ignorance here). Anyone have any ideas please?

Relevant (I hope) spec is -ASUS P8P67 (NEW REV 3.0) mobo, Win7 64-bit (Home Premium).

It may require a bios setting or an uninstall of esata controllers then let them reinstall.
Best call tech support.

OK, I actually got this working over the weekend. All it took was a reboot of the PC with the drive connected. Following bootup the device was recognised and Windows installed the drivers.

I think I read somewhere that esata drives don't always support hot-swapping, and it looks like this is the case - at least with my PC/drive combo.
