This is a problem that I've had for a while now but haven't really noticed since I very rarely use it as most of my stuff is downloaded. However I've still got a few items that require the disc in to run.

Basically, when it's idling, it vibrates against the case unless I put a few objects on top of it to quell the noise, and when it's at full speed it makes a sound like a jet fighter taking off. Any suggestions on how I might be able to silence this? I have the generic 5.25" CD/DVD drive that PCS sells.

You could try to fit rubber washers between the drive and your case (sometimes difficult because its a tight fit) or you could tighten the screws which hold it in place to see if that helps at all?
