Fallout 4

Hi guys!

I'm looking at getting a new computer essentially just to run Fallout 4!

What I'm looking for is a playable experience. It doesn't have to be on maximum graphics settings, but it does have to run sufficiently well that I don't regret buying a new computer!

Below is the spec that I have come up with:

Case STYLISH PIANO BLACK ENIGMA CASE + 2 FRONT USB
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i5 Quad Core Processor i5-6500 (3.2GHz) 6MB Cache
Motherboard ASUS® B150 PRO GAMING D3: ATX, LG1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6GBs
Memory (RAM) 16GB HyperX FURY DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 950 - 2 x DVI, HDMI, DP
2nd Graphics Card NONE
1st Hard Disk 1TB 3.5" SEAGATE SSHD, SATA 6Gb/s 7200 RPM (64MB + 8GB SSD CACHE)
2nd Hard Disk NONE
M.2 SSD Drive NONE
1st PCI-E SSD Drive NONE
2nd PCI-E SSD Drive NONE
1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
2nd DVD/BLU-RAY Drive NONE
Memory Card Reader INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (XD, MS, CF, SD, etc) + 1 x USB 2.0 PORT
Power Supply CORSAIR 350W VS SERIES™ VS-350 POWER SUPPLY
Processor Cooling Super Quiet Titan DragonFly Heatpipe Intel CPU Cooler
Thermal Paste STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Extra Case Fans NONE
LED Lighting NONE
Sound Card ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Wireless/Wired Networking WIRELESS 802.11N 450Mbps/2.4GHz DUAL-BAND PCI-E CARD
Wireless Router/HomePlugs NONE
USB Options MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 4 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS
Price £816.00

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate hearing them.

My budget is flexible: I would rather spend a little more (if I have to!) so that the game actually runs, but likewise, if I've overspec'ed somewhere I don't want to waste money.

I'd recommend going fast track if you want to play Fallout4 on release date. Remember PCS need to build it and will have other builds in progress. Also highlighting fast track will alert you to any immediate stock issues.

Thank you very much for your, very swift, reply! I will certainly take on board your points, since I'm out of touch these days with the respective interplay of various components!

However that build (including a monitor) is just over £200 more than the one I posted. I appreciate that it's substantially faster, but do you think it needs to be that much quicker to play Fallout 4? If the answer is "yes" then that's fine!

MazLad - thanks for the heads-up, though I had already thought that!

The answer is yes. The system you posted seems unbalanced and the gtx 950 will struggle with gaming at decent settings.

1TB WD BLACK WD1003FZEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm)

Vs

240GB KINGSTON V300 SSD, SATA 6 Gb (450MB/R, 450MB/W)

Very similar price and have a 1TB external HDD USB3.0 for storage.

Any real difference?

I wouldn't go for the V300's as they have very serious performance issues and only reach about half stated speeds.

BUT, SSD is fantastic compared to even the very best HDD. Personally, I'd say if you can afford it and have other means of storage you can use, then YES I'd definitely get an SSD.

Any other SSD model other than the V300's would be great.

The v300 suffers from performance issues. Caviar black is faster than the standard hdd. Having an external hard drive for storage is not good for storing applications or programmes.

I've decided on a budget of £850 so, taking comments on board I am now looking at the above.

I would have liked faster RAM and an SSD but cut them (and the CPU) back in order to get the GPU recommended.

I'm going wireless because I can't run an Ethernet cable at present and my house is old and the wiring is no more reliable than wifi! (things to do on the house is one of the reasons the budget is lower than Id like!)

Thanks for the comments guys, I really appreciate them!

So, the main question is: will this run Fallout 4?

Obviously a slower CPU and using the saving to go for an SSD

Any thoughts between these two?
