It runs as expected.. like a dream. When idle the CPU is at 37-40 degrees, and when playing games it hits 60 degrees at most. That was my main fear when ordering this system.. A badly assembled heat sink or cooler, can easily mess a system like this up, but everything is just perfect, and I'm enjoying smooth game play in the highest details in games like Team Fortress 2(250 at highest details), Crysis 2 /w DX11 textures(40-50 FPS at highest details) and I'm just about to enter Dungeon Siege 3, and i wouldn't expect any hassle with that either.

So yes. If you want a solid long term desktop replacement, this is definitely worth the money! the GTX 580M is amazing.

I went for the same laptop, though matte screen, slower ram and double the hdd.

Love it though not tested out any games or blu-ray stuff at the moment. Still gettin over the size ans the keyboard layout.

Nice laptop ! Do you use it on your lap at all ? If so do you use a heatpad / cooler etc ?

Hello MPV

Yes, i use it for my lap sometimes :) Before i go to bed i usually put a movie or two on. The air coming out of it, is actually cool, and not hot, so it's not at all uncomfortable having on your lap.

However, i will buy a cooling pad in the following days, as I'm having heat issues after a prolonged period of gaming (3+ hours). The Computer just turns off to protect itself, as it probably overheats. I don't know what the built-in emergency shutdown temperature is, but I'm sure it's pretty low, because when i turn it on right after it turns off, the GPU is around 55 degrees and the CPU is below 50.

Ahh I've had similar experiences (with lower end laptops) for long gaming sessions, I've played for years on laptops (UO, SWG etc) and it's a common problem. I tried a few coolpads and most of them were far too noisy. The best one I found which I still use (although is a bit big for my current Lenovo X121e) is a really well designed and quite quiet Targus one. Let me see if I can find a link ...

Targus Chill Pad

I got mine on Amazon iirc and I think it was about £17.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely consider that. I found it on komplett.ie for 26 euros. However, i'm also considering this: http://komplett.ie/Komplett/product/ZKB_02PC/02_NOTEBOO/03_COOLERS/productdetails/15351266/ZALMAN_ZM_NC2000_Notebook_fan_with_1_port_USB/ZM_NC2000B/default.aspx It has pretty good reviews, and you can turn the fans up and down, which is pretty awesome in my opinion. But of course the price is almost 53 euros compared to 26 euro's.

got any pics?
I think there is pics on other threads of the Vortex II 17,3 :) It's pretty common in here. It has a black glossy look.
