this is the first build in quite a long time, the last pc i bought from pc specialist would be all the way back in 2009! i am currently using a pc a friend gave me that is about 6 years old now, and while it does most jobs pretty dandy, it doesn't do so great when i would like to do more.
i'm mostly looking for a gaming pc, and to get a future proof build that i can upgrade at a later time if necessary. not looking for something super top spec but something that still handles well. i would like to be able to record and stream games at a fairly high quality. i am also interested in animation and video editing, and down the line may be using the likes of toon boom harmony, and i already have adobe after effects.
for my budget i really don't want to go over £1,200.

have been lurking earlier and heard that intel will possibly be releasing new CPUs/MoBos, and was wondering if i should hold off for a bit and see if i can get more value out of the new kit?

The date of 14th Feb was mentioned, so I'd wait until then and see as you're asking a lot of the PC from a relatively tight budget. Perhaps a cheaper motherboard, or if not then a smaller (but faster) SSD like a PM961 would let you afford a better GPU and faster RAM.

yeah i was worried that the budget was going to be tight for what i would like. but even decent speeds/decent bitrates (not necessarily high def) would be better than not being able to record much at all on my current pc. but yeah that sounds like a plan, i'll hold off for a wee bit and see what comes along. thanks for the suggestions and for letting me know!

edit: when you say faster ram, which brand would you suggest?

Since the only RAM PCS do is Corsair Vengeance, I guess I'd have to suggest the Corsair Vengeance brand :)

I was suggesting getting something like 16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3000MHz (2 x 8GB) as it can give big gains in some titles for a very small cost increase as a proportion of the build.

okay so i'm looking to maybe push my budget instead and so maybe something like this will be better?

Consider the Ultima X01: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/configure-review/238/ (£1480)

or the Vulcan Pro: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/configure-review/248/ (£1750)

These are similar specs with ~£200-250 discounts applied with the i7 8700k (which is slightly faster). The Vulcan also has a 1080 ti.

i have considered both of these pre-builds, and think they're a great deal, but as silly as this might sound it's the case that's somewhat putting me off. is there any chance of being able to select a different case? technically i could put the guts into a different case but i imagine that would void warranties? i mean it's not the end of the world or anything these are definitely a bargain! but did want something with prominent LEDs, top vent and extra fans (though nothing TOO extravagant either), as well being capable of having an internal DVD drive.

The S340 in the Ultima does have a top vent, which afaik is where the H100i V2 cooler goes.

The Vulcan one has 2 strips of RGB LEDs visible through the tempered glass.

Transferring the whole build over wouldn't be ideal, since you'd need to dismantle just about the entire thing.

If you want RGB LED fans you could just replace the fans of whatever you buy with some Corsair SP LED fans or something.

Obviously nothing doing with the internal drive, but an external one sat on top is just as good - it's what I have even though my PC does have an internal drive as well.

I don't think you can change the case, it's part of the deal for the £250 discount.

issue is where i will have my pc, the tempered glass will be facing a wall, so any internal LEDs will be a bit hopeless haha
i'd rather not have to rebuild the whole thing either. i was thinking for going for the vulcan out of the two, but the lack of ventilation at top/front is a bit of a concern for me. but it is a great price for what it offers. i think i'll have to have a wee think about it. thanks for the info!
