My PC has just died, and would like a new gaming laptop (more likely to use it and need the space where the PC takes up)

I am guessing the first laptop is the better build? and 50 quid for a better graphics card is well worth it.

will be playing mainly Total war games and Planet Zoo when it comes out (other games will run if these two will be handled)

Any help would be much appreciated ( I wouldn't like to spend much more, and if a cheaper build makes more sense then please suggest)

You're going to want more than 4gb of ram, minimum 8gb, 16 if you can afford it

Ofc, you're absolutely right Neewhom that 8gb is a bit of a minimum for modern gaming, with 16gb being ideal depending on budget.

If you want a 1660 ti, which would of course let you turn the graphics settings up higher in TW games, then the Optimus is a good choice - but with at least 8gb RAM

For the low price I would always have an internal storage hdd over an always used external one. Make sure it’s a 7200rpm drive though as 5400 is noticeably slow.

I think the 1Tb drives are only a fraction more than 500’s.

Yes. Also it's quite easy to swap games between drives (Steam even has a function to do it on demand). So if you download a big game, decide to play something else, but don't wanna have to redownload, you can just move it to the HDD for storage - and then back again when you're ready

The 1660 ti will certainly be able to run some games at well over 60fps. But unless you're really into competitive gaming e.g. shooters like CSGO, Overwatch etc, where you really want the extra framerate on your screen, that's not really an issue. And other games like demanding open world RPGs,shooters, or certain strategy games, will run much closer to 60fps (or even below it if you turn the settings up literally to max!).

So the 60hz screen is entirely appropriate as long as you're happy with it
