First gaming pc for my son

Hi all, my son turns 13 this month and he says he wants a gaming pc, would love some guidance on a potential build below. He says he will want to capture footage from his xbox hence adding the capture card, as well as play various games. I just need it to be decent enough for the foreseeable future and looking at about 1300 to 1400 if possible. Any help appreciated

Money saved from the budget can be put towards a good monitor...

I wouldn't spend any more on the GPU/Monitor combo right now as next year there will be a RTX3060 GPU available and it'll smash 1440p requirements so it would be a nice upgrade to get a GPU/Monitor combo after this fact. Unfortunately £1500 won't get you it all right now so best to save the money now and put towards an upgrade later :)

Forgot to mention. I deliberately left out the capture card. I wasn't sure if this was deliberate on your behalf. You can capture the game on the PC while playing. The capture cards are for recording from another source such as an XBox, which kinda defeats the purpose of a gaming PC :D

Thanks Scott, appreciate your reply. So will the AMD be good enough over intel? Is there any reason for that particular case or just cost saving, would I need a rear fan for that one? I added capture card as part of wanting the gaming pc he said was to also capture footage from his xbox.

So are you saying if I got this spec now could look to upgrade to better monitor and the better gpu in the future? But that aoc monitor would be sufficient now?

AMD is definitely the route to go down right now IMO. There is a future path of upgrades without too much fuss and they are far cheaper than Intel. Performance is like for like and you're going to be GPU limited regardless.

I would re-add the capture card in that case then.

Exactly, the spec is a fantastic base for a gaming PC. If you wanted some extra cushion a 750W PSU might be a good idea as this will cover any GPU upgrade in the future (The new cards like some juice).

Next year when prices and stock have stabilised, a 3060/3070 with a 1440p 144hz monitor would be butter :D

Hey Scott, I made slight amendment to your recommended spec, higher graphics card and power supply does this look ok with that AOC monitor u suggested?

It looks great but I would strongly advise against the 2060. It's a waste of money as it's overpowered for the monitor. Better to save the money and put it towards the next generation GPU and monitor next year. You're not going to see any real benefit from the spend :)
