First Gaming Rig

Hello Fellow PCS'ers

I've been a huge fan of gaming rigs, laptops and general set ups. I've always been lazy and went for premade/build packaged deals. Previous owner of an Alienware gamign note book (MX11 R3) it finally was due to upgrade and naturally I leaned towards AW again. Rather than paying ££££'s just for the novelty I decided to give it a go myself and purchased the below. Total was £1051 (2% surcharge on credit card payment)

I'll be playing alot of games on it various different titles. None of them are partically GFX or CPU intense as I mostly play LOTR online, EVE Online (Dual/triple boxing) and CIV Series.

I'd drop the i7 and go for an i5, then use the saved money on an SSD and a WD Caviar Black hard drive as the 2nd hard drive. Or you could go for an i5/4 core i7 and a GTX 970 - this would allow the system to last longer. I'd recommend a 650W CS series power supply at that point too. They're better quality and more efficient than the VS series.

Thanks for the advice! I'll consider the amendments after looking at the different prices I can see a real difference!!

Played around with the order a little today. Decided to amend the GFX card. Add silver warranty. Keeping the i7, I tried to go for the 650W but the recommendation the website gave me was it wasnt needed and the 550W would be fine plus 20% allowance

Graphics Card 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 960 - 2 x DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready

Honestly, you should only have a CPU like that if you're running something completely ridiculous like 3 Titan X's or if you're doing incredible multi tasking. It won't help you for gaming, you're much better off going with an i5 or quad core i7 with a GTX 970-980Ti.
