First Gaming/Streaming PC in a while.

JUNI0R

VALUED CONTRIBUTOR
After taking lots of suggestions off both forum pages and YouTube videos, I've made this build of a PC which I think would be best for a 1440p 144hz monitor whilst staying quiet and cool.
I'm hoping to game and stream, with possible VR in the future to just play about.
Any suggestions on the final build are more than welcome :)

Wow! This is almost a perfect build, you've clearly done your research! Just 2 things of note-

1) More of a question than something I'd change. What's the plan for the 500GB SATA Samsung SSD?
2) That WiFi card is rather overspecced, the AX200 will do a stellar job for a £60 saving!

I don't know too much about what is required to run VR currently but it might be an idea to make sure the 60TI has enough grunt for your headset/ what you plan to play. I'm sure someone would be happy to comment tomorrow morning!

This build is gonna be awesome, very excited to see how it turns out!

Thanks for the reply!

The plan for the SSD was to use it primarily for photos and videos, while keeping the one M.2 for the OS and the other M.2 for games etc. However, if I change the capacity of the latter then it may work just as well.

The WiFi card was by accident lol, fat fingered the screen clearly.

And lastly, I've been reading a lot of mixed messages on whether 3060ti can handle VR and 1440p gaming. I wouldn't be mad at changing to a 3080 if it means a smoother run with games and possibly VR.

Which headset are you using? 3060ti is fine for 1440p gaming, but depends in the headset as to weather you'd require more for VR

I've been looking at getting the SteelSeries Arctis 5 7.1 Gaming Headset, I haven't ordered it yet so I could change that or to the 3080, depending on which would be better. They both are about the same cost wise.

Sorry, the VR headset?

Sorry 😅 I just woke up and ain't thinking straight.

The Oculous Rift 2 would be the ones I'm getting.
Are you aware of the downsides of the Facebook headsets? I would personally strongly recommend against them for anyone.

Do you mean the Quest 2 or Rift S?

Spyder, sorry for the confusion, keep writing the wrong stuff and making this longer than it has to be lol.

Yes the Quest 2 sorry.

Yes the Quest 2 sorry.
And after reading some stuff about the Facebook made VR, I think I might just end up going with the Oculous Rift S. I didn't realise there was much difference in them

That's ok, no worries.

So the Quest 2 is a faily low 1920 resolution per eye which would be fine with a 3060ti.

Just be aware of what the Facebook headsets track, and how easy it is to get banned and have the headset become obsolete, even without doing anything "against their terms and conditions" and the only way to get around it is buy a new headset. You will have to moderate your actions within VR and what you say as all that is tracked.

The Rift is facebook as well, Oculus is a Facebook company. They're all the same.

That's how Facebook view the situation, if you're banned they won't unlock it under any circumstances, you lose all your games etc etc.

Photos and videos don’t really benefit from being on an SSD, file transfers are a little bit quicker but that’s the only really difference. So unless you can’t stand the little click and scratch noise and are desiring a quiet drive, the humble HDD might be a better option, it’ll be cheaper and allow you a larger capacity.

Okay I understand, I think I may leave the VR for a future purchase and not worry about it now. It would be more of just fun time kind of thing, nothing that I need. I appreciate all the info given!

As for the SSD, I personally don't like the noise of a HDD and have always liked Solid States over Hard Disks.
Do you think it would just be better to get rid of the SSD and use the first M.2 NVMe for the OS and photos etc?

There's loads of headsets that aren't made by Facebook that are far better anyway.
