First-time PC advice

Hi,

I am moving on from an xbox one s, and I am mainly looking for a PC specifically for gaming but also to use for university work. I have a macbook pro so I am not too fussed about the uni work part if it reduces cost. The games I play the most are Apex Legends and Minecraft, but I am open to playing other games like Rust, CSGO...etc. I already have an Acer monitor which is 1080p I believe. To be honest I am debating whether I get a new phone (since I have a cracked iphone 6 with only half the screen working), but I am willing to wait since I hardly use my phone for anything besides listening to music or the occasional message (yes I am an introvert). The xbox works fine for now but I struggle to play games on controller and I don't think it will last much longer with new ones being released. Also I would like to try streaming on Twitch if the PC could run it.

Edit: my uni course is physics and I have had to install stuff for electronics but I'd rather do that on a PC then my mac.

Max Budget: £1200

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

What is your monitor? Make and model or screen size, resolution, refresh rate? This budget is excluding the monitor as you already have it, right?

Total 1283 incl. VAT if you pick 1660 Super GPU. It's currently o/s so I couldn't pick it. 1660 Ti is not worth but you could choose 2060 if you want premium.

There's no good cases for you budget so you can get from other place and send to PCS. I've picked a wifi motherboard but if you don't need wifi, you can change to a cheaper board and save some pennies.

PSU is 850W to have room to upgrade GPU in future in case if you get a 1440p monitor. 750W costs nearly same as 850W so picked this one.

@Citrus_9 Thank you for the help. The make and model of my monitor is Acer 23.8"/60cm RTO Series. I've lost the paperwork for it so I have no idea on the refresh rate. The resolution 1920x1080 Full HD.

If it's this one, then it looks like a 60hz 1080p monitor.: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/model/UM.QR0EE.005

Not bad at all if you are on a budget. Though I'd recommend upgrading to a 144hz monitor (maybe even 1440p) eventually if you plan on upgrading your GPU in the future. Price wise, I've found that a 144hz 1080p monitor price wise is very similar to a 1440p monitor so I opted for 1440p myself.

For 1080p you can take 1660 Super or 2060 GPU, but best to wait for a month or two for new GPUs 3050 or 3050Ti (not released yet).

For 1440p 3060Ti GPU or for ultrawide monitor pick 3070.
